I posted this last night and am giving it a re-run.
I am going to give it a shot.
After pulling 3 tours of river patrol in Vietnam, I went with a buddy (sniper, Army) to see Apocalypse Now.
No problem. He thought the movie didn't look like anything he had seen. It pretty well represented what I had been into, except highly stylized and blown out.
A couple of weeks ago, I noticed the movie on the cable guide. My sweetheart, having never seen it, wanted to watch it. We got in about halfway.
I lasted less than 5 minutes.
I guess I was hardened and ready, way back then. But I cannot take it today. Guess the bravado of Youth has faded.
But I am going to catch this one.
I suppose we owe it to those taking the hits.

My colleague is a military historian--and he teaches a Vietnam class each semester. One of his students was a veteran of the Vietnam war, and my colleague was unaware of that when he showed a Vietnam era documentary, which included action shots of infantry engaged with the VC.
The student had a flashback in class, and fell from his desk and gashed his head. As a result, my colleague became very interested in PTSD throughout military history.
The Vietnam veteran? He became very close to my colleague, and had the opportunity to return to Vietnam several years ago. It was truly moving for all involved. He now has a scholarship in our department to finish his degree, and he speaks in most history classes about his experiences.
Best wishes to you. Take care of yourself. Don't watch anything that you feel will hurt you emotionally...my best to you.

But that is a cool story.
And here it comes again.
Ours was mostly in the boonies. This is primarily urban.
Reflex is a witch.
I would hate to live in a world where cars made me flinch.
