Poll question: Are you registered absentee?
Edited on Tue May-23-06 07:36 PM by Tiggeroshii
Lately there has been a lot of anti-machine sentiment on here due to their ability to steal our votes. It would seem that a first step to solving thise would be to stop using machines to vote with(Diebold ES&S, etc). Absentee voting has proven quite successful in every state, but especially Oregon where it is used statewide. How many of us are avoiding the Diebolds by registering absentee(as most polling places don't give you an alternative to the machiens now)?

1. We can only vote absentee if we have a good reason

Will be out of town on election day, disbled, over 60 or 65 (I don't remember what age it is that you can be a permanent absentee voter), etc.

3. In about half the states it's like that.
In half the states it can be for any reason. It should be like that in every state. Heck, it should be like Oregon in every state!

8. Every state needs to be like that!
I really don't think it could be worse than anything else we have. And yes, while there could be flaws, I think it could be BETTER than everything else we have.

13. I've only been in Oregon for 12 years, so always did my voting the
"conventional" way in Virginia...went to the VFW post and pulled the levers. I kind of miss that, but then again, I lived in a really small town, so it was a chance to talk to people I didn't get to see all the time.

I like the opportunity to have my voter's pamphlets right there, look over all the races and initiatives, research any of the issues that I'm not quite clear on and make my decision in the comfort of my own living room. Some years, there are so many initiatives on the ballot that I would have needed a cheat sheet to go to the polls!

I'd love to see the rest of the country go to vote by mail.

10. We've been absentee since moving here...
...and we're far from alone -- in the latest local election, with around a 43% total turnout, about 80% of all votes cast came from absentee ballots.
