Madonna plays Jesus...
I am not a Madonna fan, but I have long admired her for being able to attract such a large following with such small talent and huge ego. Live and let live, I says...

But this last trick of hers, having herself hung on a cross made out mirrors and wearing a crown of thorns is really a bit much even for me...a spiritually-minded metaphysician who respects the story of Jesus. Belief is one thing and respect is another. I especially respect the beliefs of Christians who fully accept the story and miracles of Jesus.

I don't think Madonna has anything to offer any longer so she is reaching for the biblically provocative to gain an audience. I won't be surprised if part of her tour is cancelled due to "illness" or some other feigned event because of small ticket sales. I read somewhere that tickets for her show are going for upwards of $500. Ain't no way I would EVER spring $500 to see her even if she was growing feathers out of her ass.

2. PR Stunt
Like most artists, I think this is of course a PR stunt, and has nothing to do with artistic credibility.

3. Two sold out shows here....I'm going to both! Can't wait!
:woohoo:

FWIW: Jesus didn't have the monopoly on being crucified. The Romans crucified thousands.

Now, I haven't seen footage of the Madonna act. I may end up being offended, I may not.

But Christians are encouraged (figuratively) to take up their own cross and follow Christ. Different viewers view art differently.

I'm not saying how Madonna means this part of her show. Like I said, I haven't seen it yet.

But I'm looking forward to it!!

GO MADONNA!

:loveya:

Coventina, I just gotta ask...Are you really going to pay so much for
tickets to see this show? $500 per ticket?

If so, then Bush and his kind are telling the truth about the economy being better than ever! :)

10. I did not pay $500 a ticket. There were no $500 face value tickets
Maybe the scalpers are getting that kind of money. Or maybe in different markets.

I would eat dirt before buying from a scalper, though.

Yes, the tickets were still expensive. But, I have never seen Madonna live in concert. Had the opportunity for the "Virgin" tour, but didn't go due to parental disapproval. Big mistake.

I figure this is a once-in-a-lifetime thing. I used all my mad money for the year, and DH says no b-day, anniversary or x-mas present for me this year either. That's fine.
:-)

Can't wait.....

:woohoo:

so enjoy every single minute!

I think the $500 ticket price was for Madison Square Garden.

4. Awesome.
This is the best thing to happen to Jesus since he was a homosexual character in an off-broadway play.

5. She wouldn't say anything political until it was SAFE.
Remember in 2004. She had a video made with some anit-Bush imagry in it. She chickened out and refused the video to be releaesd.

To hell with that whore. And by whore I mean someone that pimps themself out to the highest bidder...

6. are you jealous she makes more money than you?

Madonna is a self-aggrandizing longest lasting, longest most successful musician in all of history.

and she despises this war even if she has only on rare occassions shown her disdain.

she is a total sell out and probably unhappy that she is married to Guy instead of her true love Gwyneth

but overall, I respect the hell out of a woman who with all that on her plate,
can still make fun of the social constructs that are made up religious myths about superhuman little flip flopped men who walked the earth once..

her ability for performances that have satire and comical/erotic/outlandish shock value are her trademarks.. we would be worried if Madonna STOPPED doing this ... especially in a day in age when a stupid book like Davinci can capture more hearts and minds than a book about the raping of america's civil liberties...

good on her.. make fun of the radical religious nuts.. someone has to....
they're running our country... and they are as far away from jesus as madonna is from jesus....

he was kind of a very cool guy by the way, but a flip flop wearer nonetheless....

i mean, if he could sing like madonna back then, maybe there would be more christians in the world.. is she art imitating life or life imitating art? who knows?

9. Now you are the kind of fan that almost any celebrity entertainer would
love to have...and I mean that sincerely...

No, I am not jealous of her because of the money she makes because that would make me jealous of ALL celebrities who make huge sums of money and I don't have time in my life for THAT emotion!

11. just ribbing ya itza...
i actually liked your post...

madonna is an over the top spoiled bitch who sometimes needs a strong bitch slapping.. it's her power I envy.. would be nice to have such celebrity and financial power... understandable it has made her an ugly person on the inside..

maybe one day she'll renounce the gerbil wheel for a truly spiritual life...and maybe affect more people even more positively

15. You know, there ARE celebs that I stand in awe of because of the power
they are able to accrue even with not a great talent.

They are SHOW MEN AND SHOW WOMEN more so than talented artists and they know how to grab attention and cover the fact that their voices, etc are not really the best.

I think Diana Ross is also one of those whose talent as a singer was small, but whose ability as a SHOW WOMAN was enormous.

7. she is what she's always been. . .
Edited on Tue May-23-06 08:16 PM by stellanoir
a social satirist and amazing send up artist.

In this age of rampant fundamentalism I think we could use a few more of her.

I've met her and she is sincere.

She's a great mom and always meets the zeitgeist with extraordinary finesse and polish. Not to be minimized at all.

12. her former financial manager
agrees she tends to have gwyneth paltrow more involved in her life than would seem appropriate for friends..
GP would be in meetings about money which seems odd for including if she were just a friend...

notice you mentioned kids and nothing about her loyalty or love of her husband...

always felt he was a placeholder so she could seem normal to the world...

8. That's vintage Madonna, Controversy to the hilt.
Remember one of her videos depicted a black guy as jesus? Lots of folks were upset about that one too. It's just a video. In this case, it's only a concert.

No publicity is bad publicity. She's got people talking about her again. I'm not a fan of her music ...but, you gotta hand it to her, she is a GENIUS at self promotion (with all sincerity).

20. yes! the church uses a crucifiction in its propaganda/PR, so what is so
bad about madonnna doing what the christian churches ALREADY do? They are both using the concept to rake in the cash.

sadomasochistic images have always appealed to many humans.

22. I don't think people go to her shows to see deep politics. I think they
go for her dancing (which is great) and her pop tunes. I loved her last show. She & a bagpiper were doing Russian dance dips (where you kick your legs out as you squat) on a moving floor. Juxtapotion was really cool. Where else would you see that?

Not into this lot. Didn't go for her last album. Don't need to see her more than once in my life. But she is a great dancer. She really is. What is political in her shows or songs is the very least of it - always. She is always about the mix and movement.
