So let me get this straight - We mustn't compare Bush to Hitler-
-but calling feminists "feminazis" is humorous.

I guess that's funny because of the way feminists line up people they don't like and put them in rail cars and incinerate them, right? HA HA, that's hilarious, RUSH.

But it's not cool to call Bush another Hitler, because unlike Hitler, he would never use fear and propaganda to manipulate the public, or start murderous and illegal, unprovoked invasions of unarmed nations...

You commies like Michael Moore had better stop slandering our president or we will BOYCOTT Ben & Jerry's!

Is that about right?

14. Mussolini, definitely the better comparison.
Bush is all puffed up and able to strike a nationalist chord in the sheeple. Hitler was a mad genius at one point being able to
make a sudden unexpected successful military move to the surprise of even his generals.
Bush is no military genius. He is no strategist. He is a talking head, a tool.

35. An incompetent Mussolini, maybe.
Unlike Mussolini, Bush does not make the trains run on time.

I think BushCo are mix-and-match fascists. They draw on the worst elements of many fascist systems, but fail to provide any real benefits to the populists of the sort that support fascist regimes.

And of course they also draw Stalinsit principles into their methods.

37. Fascism is a political corruption, not a valid political ideology.
That's the problem, imho. The term itself was coined in reference to the faeces, the Roman (and other) symbol of the state as "strength though unification." It has never been anything other than a perversion of the superficially portrayed principles of socialism - an attempt to hijack and destroy the politics of equity and justice in favor of the age-old avarices of the few. Thus, it's not described by the happenstance benefits but by the plethora of deceits and the aggregation of wealth and power by the few at the expense of the many. Thus, when describing it, we need to focus on it as a cancer, not a healthy alternative, imho. It bears as much resemblance to a real political ideology as Ayn Rand's (so-called) 'objectivism' resembles a valid ethical system. Both are facades of fallacies and deceits.

43. Welllllll....
Il Duce in fact did not make the trains run on time. During his rulership, in fact, they were often delayed, or outright stopped, for one reason or another - usually things like contraband serarches and arrests.

However the Italian press made damn sure to ignore that fact and spread the word that "Everything is working perfectly under our Great Leader's guiding hand!"

...Sound familiar?

47. Exactly. The 'culture of lies' is the hallmark of fascism.
It's something that virtually everyone participates in - the press, people, all kinds of institutions including the church - with the small exception of the kid that says "the emperor is naked!" (Who's usually spanked for being 'impolite' or 'unpatriotic.') Big and small, it's the falsehoods that abound.

The trains didn't run on time. It was a myth ... just like the "march on Rome."

55. Bad news is good news - if you twist it hard enough.
"40 terrorists killed in successful hideout raid" sounds more like "good news" than "five fighters and 35 bystanders killed along with 10 Iraqi soldiers in seige on local mosque"

Or perhaps...

"Five new schools being built in Tikrit" vs. "Five schools in Tikrit being rebuilt, hospitals and sewage treatment still badly damaged"

The "fog of war" exists at home as well.

48. Okay here I go again...
I can't stand these inaccurate descriptions of Hitler as some sort of evil genius.

Hitler may have certainly been mad but he was no genius or even a great military strategist. His only claim to fame is being able to bamboozle the German people with nationalist rhetoric, skillful use of propaganda, and out and out lies. His economic successes were were based only on the build up of the German military... if Hitler had not gone to war this economic boost would have certainly petered out as nothing substantial was being produced apart from armaments, which as you know contribute nothing to an economy and in fact are used to destroy economies.

As far as Hitlers military successes the credit should go to Heinz Guderian the inventor of Blitzkrieg. Any and every military success is owed to the German Generals and any time Hitler got involved it became a strategic blunder, and I will offer these examples.

Against his Generals' advise Hitler called on his advancing armies to halt before Dunkirk allowing the British expeditionary force to evacuate. This offered the British hope and contributed to continued British defiance.

A blunder was made by the German Luftwaffe where one raiding sortie got lost on a night bombing run and instead dropped bombs on London by mistake. In retaliation the British bombed Berlin. Hitler then made the decision to change the Luftwaffe strategy of bombing airfields and radar sites to the infamous Blitz of London. This gave the beleaguered RAF much relief and strengthened British resolve. A few more weeks of the Luftwaffe's campaign against the airfields would have decimated the RAF, but the revenge bombing strategy allowed the RAF to recover and win the Battle of Britain.

Operation Barbarossa - this was Hitlers greatest dream, to invade Russia. He made the decision to proceed with the Russian invasion even though the British had not been neutralized. This would create a two front war for Germany, and allow the Allied forces a place to muster their forces for the eventual invasion of the continent. The invasion of Russia itself was poorly thought out as Hitler believed "We need only to kick in the door and the whole rotten structure will come tumbling down." He was wrong. Hitler should have paid closer attention to history and learned from Napoleon's defeat. The Germans were brought far enough into the Russian interior to stretch the supply lines. When the infamous Russian winter set in it spelled the end for Germany's victories - nothing but defeat would follow. The German army was ill prepared for winter warfare in the Russian hinterland. Troops froze to death and equipment was immobilized allowing time for Stalin's reserve lead by Zhukov to strike.

Hitler also became obsessed with capturing Stalingrad - the city with the namesake of his nemesis. He diverted an army headed for oil fields in the southern Caucasus to accomplish this. The result was a bloody defeat and this sacrifice based simply on Hitler's ego meant that Germany would not gain the badly needed fuel supplies.

In the end Hitler was mapping out strategies with non-existent armies and ignoring his Generals pleas as the allies were advancing on Germany.

Not the pattern of a genius if you ask me. So please stop this false and ridiculous meme. Hitler was no genius - just a dangerous criminal windbag with a loud bullhorn and a private army of brown-shirted (and later black-shirted) thugs.

Both appeal to the little guy while secretly having little respect for them. Hitler wanted Germany to succeed, but for glory--same with *.

I don't think Hitler was particularly intelligent, but he did have charisma. Same with *. Hitler was more articulate, but I think the real genius was Goebbels writing his speeches and managing the media for him. And * has one of those guys, too.

44. Hitler was a cretin and wouldn't listen to generals who'd have
forgotten more about strategy than he could ever have dreamed of learning.

Hitler was not just a loser, but a loser's loser. A barely literate stumble-bum who, like a petulant child, wanted to destroy his country and his people, once he knew he himself was a gonner. Scorched earth must have been what he had between his ears.

Hundreds of thousands of the German womenfolk he was supposed to have been protecting and setting on high, not just gang-raped, but habitually raped by Russian troops, and in Strasbourg by some of the French troops. By 1950, between 9 and 13 million German civilians died from hunger, disease, etc. And the country, a vast patchwork of rubble.

Some leader.

if you look at my post above I pretty much said the same. I can't believe people still believe that Hitler was some kind of genius. Maybe people don't want to accept that an entire nation can be duped by a dumbfuck. But look at where we are now, hmmmm?

I just wish people would stop with this whole "Hitler was an evil genius" bullshit! Even a cursory examination of history will reveal what a real rube he was.

thicker.

However, like many another tin-pot dictator (Idi Amin springs to mind), he excelled in a kind of low kind of cunning, and was able to fool Big Business (and not just in Germany, by any means), who thought they could use him as a disposable tool. Once he was cock-of-the- walk, they ended up having to do his bidding. It didn't require an above-average intelligence to do that - just the cunning and manic determination to exploit their fear and greed. In the corporatists of industry and commerce, we are currently governed by the dumbest SOBs the World has to offer this side of the black stump; our right-wing politicians, but pawns.

A comparably ruthless psycopath, Stalin was nevertheless smart enough to finesse the Allied leaders, which, strange to relate, was no mean feat. De Gaulle, Churchill and Roosevelt were all statesmen worthy of the name.

57. In actuality, Conan's right
What Hitler accomplished was quite impressive, in the scope of history. Under Hitler Germany went from a ruined nation to the world's strongest military power, and one of the strongest economies in Europe. The methods and ends are certainly not worthy of any sane man's admiration, but Hitler, perhaps Ironicly, is one of history's few examples of the Republicans' "boot-strap" theology.

Go figure, huh?

It is said that there have been 40 million abortions since Roe vs Wade. The Nazis killed 6 million Jews. So the feminists have the Nazis beat by about 36 million lives.

That is why pro-lifers call abortion, "the greatest atrocity in human history."

54. "Nazi" gets overused and oversimplified. Try "1984" and USSR for starters
The references to George Orwell's seminal novel and to the former Soviet Union get people's attention in a way that tossing around references to Nazism and Hitler do not.

The Third Reich fell before most people alive now were even born. The Soviet Union is much closer to us, and more people will understand the reference. I also personally believe it is more apt.

58. I Can't Believe This Thread Is Still Around
It's still toward the top of the page as I post this.

Comparing Bush and Hitler is stupid and counter-productive. Reasonable people tune out when you engage in hyperbole like that, because it's absurd.

The term feminazis is ridiculous and absurd as well. But unless someone has killed millions of innocents and plunged the world into war, Hitler comparisons are LAME.
