7. How about a every post has to include a reference to the DC day or
hour or whatever? For example you could post entirely DC stuff or whatever your discussion you mention the DC somewhere in it. Stupid?

2. To be perfectly honest
Edited on Wed May-24-06 04:56 AM by theHandpuppet
As much as I admire the stand the Dixie Chicks have taken, if there is fundraising to be done I'd rather it be for a worthy and needy cause than for flowers which will be dead in a week. If we want to thank the DC's, how about as a music scholarship for a student in need? That's the way I would go -- something lasting.

26. I totally agree.
I like the message behind the rose campaigns but it is a total waste of money. Find out what charities these people support and donate to those in their name. Much better use of money than spending it on dead plants.

5. they probably get this type of stuff all the time
since they are entertainment figures and more people hear about them than Helen Thomas.

a better thing would be to show up wherever they will perform and hold up signs , wear shirts etc to show support for what they are doing. even if you don't want to go to the show , just standing outside with signs of support would help. especially since the freepers will probably show up protesting them.

8. how about buying their CDs? The media will notice a huge bump in sales
It will also help force the radio stations hand and make them play their songs. How can they NOT play platinum albums?

I am going by Barnes&Noble today to snag the latest Neil Young and Dixie Chicks CDs!

I can't ever remember getting any Neil Young music since the CSN&Y days - LOL!

11. Great idea...Buy the CD
You'll also get a password (CDs purchased at Target only I think) in the CD for 4 presale tickets for their upcoming concerts, if you'd like to see them live. I saw them at Vote for Change and they are excellent, good harmonies and nice sound.

The band...
In addition to new music from Taking the Long Way album, Dixie Chicks will perform all their previous hits and have recently been in rehearsal with their A-list touring band. Austin sensation David Grissom (Joe Ely, John Mellencamp) reprises his 2003 role as leader of the Dixie Chicks band which this time features returning acoustic guitarist extraordinaire Keith Sewell, (Ricky Skaggs), as well as Wallflowers drummer Fred Eltringham, Black Crowes/Chris Robinson guitarist Audley Freed, west coast keyboard studio legend Larry Knechtel (Simon & Garfunkel, Mamas & Papas, Beach Boys) former Soul Coughing bassist Sebastian Steinberg, pedal steel player Pete Finney (Doug Sahm, Alison Moorer), Rod Stewart violinist Janna Jacoby and cellist John Krovoza.

our troops deployed overseas. Below is a list of some of the top military charities in the

16. Help me understand why they deserve roses?
I admired the "ashamed" comment, but not the way they buckled to political/sales pressure in retracting it. I'm not sure I'm impressed by their taking back the apology now that *'s polling is much lower--and, by an incredible coincidence, just as they have a new album to sell.

Have I missed sonething, though? Have they taken an actual stand against * policy?

It's pretty emphatic, but not very specific, and I find the timing suspect.

22. emails and letters are fine IMO
instead of flowers.

But the thing is, the thanks should be personal. A gift to charity is good if it's also accompanied with the personal letter. The expression of thanks is the important thing.

The Dixie Chicks have a wide audience. They are sticking their necks out no less than Colbert did ...although I will give Colbert his due--it takes extra special nerve to look Chimpy straight in the eye while you're crucifying him verbally...

Support of all of these celebrities--for those specific acts of courage that they are in a unique position to deliver (drawing instant publicity)--are really important. Look at the vast majority who choose to remain silent, even though they have the same power. It's not easy to do and should be supported.

31. I'll be a party-pooper: I thought the Helen Thomas thing was really a
waste of money. A few dozen, maybe, but not the quantity that she got. I hope they were taken to hospitals and nursing homes (did DU help do that? who did? who paid them?). The money could have been better spent giving it to food shelves, etc. Or at least, giving her something that would LAST. Sorry for being so practical.
