Cleveland Submits Bid To Host 2008 GOP Convention
"Cleveland city leaders have submitted a bid to host the 2008 Republican National Convention.
The city is competing against New York City, Minneapolis-St. Paul and Tampa-St. Petersburg for the convention.

If Cleveland makes the first cut, Republican officials will visit the city in August.

<snip>

"The last time the city hosted the Republican National Convention, Franklin D. Roosevelt was president.

Bringing the convention to the city would add up to $100 million in an economic boost for area businesses, restaurants, hotels, officials said. It would also provide a lot of national publicity."

I hope they pick us, I hope they pick us, I hope they pick us...
I would love to have those idiots spending money here. We are mostly Dems up in these parts and it would be like taking candy from a baby while they are here. 67% for Kerry in Cuyahoga.

4. First New York, then Cleveland . . .
What is up with the GOP wanting to come to heavily blue areas for their boring talking point-fests that look like their still championing Zombie Reagan? Do they realize not only is their cash going to a county that's NEVER going to go Red in this life or any other thanks to Bewsh and his oilmen, but our activist welcome wagon is going to give them shit like they've never seen?

Bad publicity is still publicity, I guess . . .

6. I don't think Cleveland has the facilities for it...
I'm originally from Cleveland btw. Anyways, the convention center is still worthless. While the Q could hold the convention itself, I also don't think there's enough hotel space in the city. Not to mention security. New York could shove a couple thousand cops into the fray, Cleveland doesn't have that luxury.

7. This is from the same article
"The appeal is the fact that 20,000 hotel rooms are available within 45 minutes in downtown. Every room from here to Akron-Canton would be booked and a massive shuttle service would be set up."

I doubt that would even be enough.
