1. $17.76 his Progressive Patriots fund!
He will notice & it will do something more concrete than the flowers, the Fund helps many good candidates too!

2. No, send money to Progressive Patriots, or to his campaign.
What's the deal with the flower obsession around here? Sheesh.

3. Only w/e-mails, calls & faxes - a hearty "Thank you!" for doing real work

is entirely appropriate.
We should enthusiastically recognize our mbrs when they are actually doing their jobs as the "opposition party".

Russ Feingold must get really, really tired in the Senate.

edit: oops! Yes, donations to Progressive Patriots are fantastic too - I donate regularly to them myself. Complete oversight (I was thinking only of Helen Thomas flowers.....).

4. Look I love roses as much as anyone,
Edited on Wed May-24-06 07:34 AM by Divernan
(and I am proud to say that my Distant Drums rosebush I planted last summer has already got 35 rosebuds on it), but to the extent that "Helen Thomas" refers to sending thousands of roses, I would never support doing that again. Given some time and perspective to consider the amount of effort and money that went into that, and the fact that Helen couldn't enjoy all those roses personally and gave them to others, let us use a bit more creativity and come up with other ways to show admiration and appreciation - hopefully tailored to the lifestyle and values of the person we are gifting. In Helen's case, we could have had a dozen roses wired to her office or her home every week for YEARS.
That would have been a daily reminder of our support and affection.

I'd say contributing to Finegold's campaign fund would be the best thing for him. Whether he makes a run for the presidency or simply re-election to the Senate, he needs funding, not flowers.

5. Please,No more roses,they die too soon...
Dozen roses wired to her office or her home every week for YEARS. Hindsight is 20/20. It was a really nice gesture and it made the news. Maybe have an Angel fund. Helen is like an Angel to me. Oh,Are there angels in every religion.I guess it's not politically correct. We could send a guardian angel and put the rest in the fund for the next time.Or we could have an award 'DU Hero of the week, month, year'.I love this idea! I can think of one from DU,last week that deserves an award for bravery.:kick:

6. Don't forget, it started with Barbara Boxer. We "Boxered" Helen.
And although both Barbara and Helen had to give away their roses, just think how our gift to both Barbara and Helen touched those they gave them too. Think of the publicity both got out of it.

But no roses to a "guy". To another woman, yes.

We can think of something else for Russ.
