Why is Dick Gephardt being an ass?
Thanks, buddy. Really appreciate the positive vibes!

Gephardt expresses Nov. doubt
By Bob Cusack

During a private meeting in San Francisco last week, former Rep. Dick Gephardt (D-Mo.) expressed doubt that Democrats will win control of the House this fall, according to knowledgeable sources.

Gephardt’s remarks about the upcoming election, delivered to a group of investment analysts last Tuesday in the district of House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.), run counter to the predictions of some of his former colleagues who now occupy powerful positions in the Democratic leadership.

1. if the democrats win it won't be because of them
Edited on Wed May-24-06 09:35 AM by still_one

2. Snarky. Sore loser? If he can't say something positive, he should just
SHUT THE FUCK UP. His words will now be quoted all over the corporate owned MSM.

3. He's right to express doubt. When you think you've won the turtle
takes the cake.

5. Only things I have heard are that it is POSSIBLE the dems can
take back the house. I never hear a Dem over confident on this. So why would DickHEAD say this? And it will be all over the MSM.

4. Why, because he's Dick Gephardt, that's why
After having him as a Missouri rep for many years, let me tell you the man's a corporate controlled ass. He talks a good liberal game, but when the rubber meets the road, he's a corporatista all the way.

And given his history of verbal pukeage over the years, this little gem isn't particularly suprising. In fact it's one of the more minor statements he's made in his life.

6. Unfortunately he is probably right
If you analyze the individual state polls rather than the National numbers, he is probably correct.

9. Agreed
Realistically there are only, what about 30 +/- races that are really up for grabs. Facts is facts, wishful thinking won't take the day (or the House).

12. Some people here only like pleasant "facts"
In fact the odds are very much against Democrats regaining either house. Facts is facts just like you say.

10. Gephardt is not being an ass.
He's being realistic.

The dems can win back the house; but it's certainly not a sure thing.

15. We will not win in November by default. We have to fight for it.
So don't trash Gephardt so fast. He's trying to keep the fire lit under our asses.

We can't assume victory.

18. When was he not?
Even when I agreed with him he made me cringe.

He was as much responsible as anybody, including Newt Gingrich, for the toxic partisan atmosphere prevailing in Washington today. He told the newly-inaugurated President Clinton that he could get his initiatives passed with only Democratic votes and that there would be no need to reach out to Republicans. It was the worst piece of advice Clinton got in the eight years of his presidency.

19. I would rather think that we could easily lose in the fall...
...so we get off our asses and get some work done for our local candidates so that we do win big...nothing worse than overconfidence with elections...it's poison.

20. I didn't think so until yesterday
Saying that I'm disappointed in the Intel Committe Democrats doesn't quite cover how I really feel.
