Baez, 'Butterfly' Protesting In SoCal Tree

(AP) LOS ANGELES Folk singer Joan Baez and famed tree-sitter Julia "Butterfly" Hill have taken up residence in a tree in South Los Angeles to raise awareness about a 14-acre urban farm that is under threat of demolition.

Hundreds of farmers could face evictions from the plot of land after a nonprofit group came up $10 million short in its bid to buy the site.

The Trust for Public Land was not able to raise the more than $16 million required by the time the purchase option expired Monday. The group was given 45 days to raise the money.
