Job Discrimination and the "Christian Right"

Subject: Job Discrimination and the "Christian Right"

I live near Jamestown, N.D., and noticed this ad in the Jamestown Sun's Classified Ads of May 22nd in the "Help Wanted" section. The ad starts out as follows: "Sheyenne Care Center is now hiring Christian Caring LPN's or RN's. All shifts available."

I can't believe they could be so stupid as to word an ad like that!!!! Isn't that considered job discrimination? I'm gonna call them tomorrow and tell them I'm interested in the job, but that I am Jewish (I'm really not), and ask them if that makes any difference. They should get sued for being so blatantly biased.

the Sheyenne Care Center probably gets some of smirk's faith based money too. (well, it's our tax money really)

1. that's unbelievable
Would that even be legal if it was a Christian Hospital? I can see advertising for a Catholic for a teacher at a Catholic school or something, but religion has no bearing on job performance here. Yeah, pretty crazy

9. They aren't allowed to do even that here.
I subbed at a Catholic school. The principal wanted to hire me for a long-term sub position. She told me that if she was hiring me for a regular position, she would not be allowed to ask me if I was Catholic.

I told her that I was not Catholic. I thought it was fair for her to have that information. I think Catholic schools should be allowed to hire Catholic teachers over others when possible. But I think they get federal funds, so they are not allowed to discriminate.

3. It's absolutely illegal
to discriminate on the basis of color, CREED, or national origin.

However, we all know how well labor law is being enforced by this gang of criminals.

Expect to see more of this as right wing Christians attempt to deprive anyone outside their group of a living, of homes, of everything in life.

4. If you're Christian, it's not discrimination...don't ya know?

I see advertisements all the time where companies include "Christian Owners" or some such crap. THAT alone insures I will never shop at their place of business. If it's so important to mention that in an ad, they aren't the kind of people I want to do business with anyway. I would think that running an employment ad saying that IS religious discrimination, but not if it's privately owned. Don't know for sure though.

5. Isn't that against the law?
Someone should report them. I guess 'Christian only' is the equivalent of 'whites only' these days.

7. um...they are a Catholic not-for-profit
Edited on Wed May-24-06 11:28 AM by ProdigalJunkMail
why should they hire non-Christians when part of their mission statement says "works for the glory of God by bringing the Word and Healing of Jesus Christ to all, with a special concern for the poor"? Should the baptists be forced to hire non-baptist ministers?

edit for correct religious affiliation

10. please see post #7 and explain the illegality...
they are non-profit ... they are a catholic sponsored ministry ... my church doesn't have to hire (insert any religious or non-relgious entity here) to work in the food bank we operate.
