Jon Brown, Freedom Fighting Hero or Villainous Terrorist?

I live in the south and I'm tiring of the confederate flags on cars. I've been thinking about a bumper sticker to the effect of :

"The Confederacy may be your Heritage but John Brown is mine."

I have a friend that is related to John Brown. I think if you design the bumper sticker and have them made, please let me know, I would buy some for her to hand out to people.

6. I like the slogan

I don't know if he was a terrorist or a man of conscience? It wouldn't pass the WWJD test, however, as violence contradicts the Sermon on the Mount.

At the very least, the sticker will make some people think.

In one of Laura Ingalls Wilder's books, she talks about her town getting a Congregational preacher who is related to John Brown, and how he resembled him in a way that distracted her from his preaching. The minister was an interesting character in the book, too. It wasn't Rev. Alden, he was in earlier books.

11. one of John Brown's ancestors was Robert White

and another DUer claimed that it was estimated that 1/4 of America has Robert White for an ancestor. So lots of people must be related to old John Brown. I just checked and John Brown is also a 5th cousin once removed of Joseph Smith, founder of the Mormons. In fact, John Brown's parents were also 5th cousins once removed, both being descended from Robert White (17 may 1560) and Bridget Allgar.

It passed the WWJD test though, since Brown was also killed by the state, as he predicted he would be.
