Desperate for Supporters, DeLay Turns to Stephen Colbert
Desperate for Supporters, DeLay Turns to Stephen Colbert

A good sign that Tom DeLay doesn’t have the facts on his side: the top source for his latest defense against his critics is Stephen Colbert.

This morning, DeLay’s legal defense fund sent out a mass email criticizing the movie “The Big Buy: Tom DeLay’s Stolen Congress,” by “Outfoxed” creator Robert Greenwald.

The email features a “one-pager on the truth behind Liberal Hollywood’s the Big Buy,” and the lead item is Colbert’s interview with Greenwald on Comedy Central (where Colbert plays a faux-conservative, O’Reilly-esque character). The headline of the “fact sheet”:

DeLay thinks Colbert is so persuasive, he’s now featuring the full video of the interview at the top of the legal fund’s website. And why not? According to the email, Greenwald “crashed and burned” under the pressure of Colbert’s hard-hitting questions, like “Who hates America more, you or Michael Moore?”

Those people are unbelievably imbecilic. That's why there are so many RW guests on the Colbert Report. Because they don't "get it."

Brent,
Are you Republicans so clueless that you don't realize that
Colbert's persona is meant to mock your pundit heroes on the right? Did
none of you learn from his presentation at the White House
Correspondents' Association dinner? Can you learn?
I must thank you, though, for providing me proof of Republican
intellectual inferiority. It will be useful for future debates with
your Republican-voting sheeple who claim they're not stupid while
simultaneously decrying the left's intellectual "elitism." It's a good thing
for y'all that the Supreme Court put a stop to the executions of the
mentally retarded in Texas, isn't it?

62. Brent Perry is the attorney who administers the trust fund.
Brent C. Perry, a Houston lawyer who runs the defense fund, known formally as the Tom DeLay Legal Expense Trust, said in an interview that donations continued to flow in this year, despite recent unflattering publicity for Mr. DeLay as a result of the criminal investigation in Texas and continuing attacks on his fundraising activities from Congressional Democrats and campaign-finance watchdog groups. Mr. Perry said he was convinced the fund would have no trouble raising the money needed to pay Mr. DeLay's legal bills.

"There's tremendous support for helping Mr. DeLay pay these bills," he said. "So far we haven't encountered any reluctance."

He suggested that the publicity over Mr. DeLay's legal troubles might actually help in raising money. "Certainly, knowing the need exists doesn't hurt," he said.

66. Why is DeLay asking for money and petitions...
How is that going to stop the fact that he broke a law and basically been behaving in a sneaky conniving way. He should pay for his own legal fees and leave the public out of it. He's used enough of our money anway..

I hope this site doesn't have a counter or something that pays DeLay for number of hits...

C-Span Asks Web Sites to Pull Colbert Clip
AP on Yahoo ^ | 5/8/06 | Natasha T. Metzler - ap
WASHINGTON - Political comedy often is intended to stir controversy, but this doesn't usually involve broadcasting rights and the public affairs network C-SPAN. The cable network asked two Internet video providers, YouTube and IFILM, to pull clips of Stephen Colbert's April 29 performance at the White House Correspondents Association dinner from their Web sites. C-SPAN said it contacted the companies because the copyrighted material was posted online without its permission. Both YouTube and IFILM complied with the request. Colbert hosts a satirical current events show on Comedy Central and performed his comedy routine at the correspondent's dinner. YouTube posted the...

105. I just saw the video...
Ohmy.

If Tom DeLay is stupid enough to think that this interview was fodder for supporting him, he more moronic, than he is corrupt.

I don't know if that's possible...but it appears to be.

You would have to be a complete myopic, humorless, dimwit to not get Colbert's irony.

Furthermore, this demonstrates how completely dense they are. Do they actually believe that there is a journalist/interviewer out there who would take that stance? Has DeLay's reality been so altered by the few slobbering supporters with whom he surrounds himself--that he actually think that someone out there is toeing the line like that, for him? Oh please.

This is so hysterical.

Will they ever live this down?

I knew those dumb pieces of shit thought his character was truly a neo-con supporter. When I saw William Kristol on his show it seemed like he was quite surprised to find out Colbert wasn't a fawning reporter! he got invited to that White House dinner and now this. I think someone told these bozos that Colbert was on their side.

119. Well, it's an unpleasant truth
Regressives have a problem with unpleasent truths. Truths like... the 4th Amendment. Those other two pesky branches of government. The 1st Amendment. Global warming. Bush is NOT the second coming of Jesus. Invading Iraq was a bad idea. Osama is still alive and transmitting.

It's much easier to stick your fingers in your ear and scream "You're either with us or with the terrorists!"

Heck, toss in those people who think NASCAR isn't fixed and I suppose Tom's won the trifecta.

Okay, I'd tell them that the joke is on them, but that would require me to wiggle my mouse and tap some computer keys and frankly, it's just not worth the effort. I mean, it's the bottom die-hard 29% of the country that I'd have to tell, right? Well, these people are so dense I would actually have to brand "IT'S SATIRE, YOU IDIOT! YOU'RE THE BUTT OF THE JOKE!!!!" backwards on their foreheads with a hot iron. Then I'd have to brand the definition of 'satire' on their chests, also backwards, and buy them a mirror.

If they want to dismiss reality and believe that Stephen Colbert is on their side, that's fine with me, because remember, "reality has a well-known liberal bias"!
