a change in the neighborhood today
:hi:

I saw this on my way home from the store. I guess they gave up with flying the flag every day it seems (this has been going on for years - ever since 9/11). I couldn't help but notice this when I went by.

Another rat that has jumped a sinking ship it seems. However, admittedly, I feel rather sorry for this solitary abandoned flag. It is my flag too. I admittedly feel a combination of anger as well as a feeling of some hope knowing that the person living in this house has given up on the regime that has stolen our country.

It is a shame that our flag, the flag of the United States of America has become a the symbol of being a * supporter. Now our flag ends up looking to be nothing but a piece of cast aside trash/junk in someone's garage! :grr: THIS IS NOT RIGHT! :patriot:

We must reclaim not only our country, but also OUR flag which is supposed to be cared for a very specific way.

Comments? Thoughts? Feelings about this? Let's discuss!

Kind of like what Bush has done to our Constitution and Bill of Rights. :(

2. will that be what our flag will be known to be in history?

a symbol of the destruction of what once was "America the Beautiful" and a symbol of wars without end. The destruction of the Constitution of the United States? :argh:

Trashed alright, but can it be repaired. Is it possible?

I feel very sad about this. Very. :(

3. The Federal Flag Code

The Federal Flag Code

§ 8. Respect for flag No disrespect should be shown to the flag of the United States of America; the flag should not be dipped to any person or thing. Regimental colors, State flags, and organization or institutional flags are to be dipped as a mark of honor.

(a) The flag should never be displayed with the union down, except as a signal of dire distress in instances of extreme danger to life or property.

(b) The flag should never touch anything beneath it, such as the ground, the floor, water, or merchandise.

(c) The flag should never be carried flat or horizontally, but always aloft and free.

(d) The flag should never be used as wearing apparel, bedding, or drapery. It should never be festooned, drawn back, nor up, in folds, but always allowed to fall free.

Bunting of blue, white, and red always arranged with the blue above, the white in the middle, and the red below, should be used for covering a speaker's desk, draping the front of the platform, and for decoration in general.

(e) The flag should never be fastened, displayed, used, or stored in such a manner as to permit it to be easily torn, soiled, or damaged in any way.

(f) The flag should never be used as a covering for a ceiling.

(g) The flag should never have placed upon it, nor on any part of it, nor attached to it any mark, insignia, letter, word, figure, design, picture, or drawing of any nature.

(h) The flag should never be used as a receptacle for receiving, holding, carrying, or delivering anything.

(i) The flag should never be used for advertising purposes in any manner whatsoever. It should not be embroidered on such articles as cushions or handkerchiefs and the like, printed or otherwise impressed on paper napkin or boxes or anything that is designed for temporary use and discard. Advertising signs should not be fastened to a staff or halyard from which the flag is flown.

(j) No part of the flag should ever be used as a costume or athletic uniform. However, a flag patch may be affixed to the uniform of military personnel, firemen, policemen, and members of patriotic organizations. The flag represents a living country and is itself considered a living thing. Therefore, the lapel flag pin being a replica, should be worn on the left lapel near the heart.

(k) The flag, when it is in such condition that it is no longer a fitting emblem for display, should be destroyed in a dignified way, preferably by burning. (Disposal of Unserviceable Flags Ceremony)

6. guilty of (b) (e) and (i) ...
(i) if you consider it to be advertising for *.

So what do you do? Call the cops or what?

I am sickened admittedly. I went back up there to take the picture. To be honest with you, it was in the trash can (located about 6 feet from where the flag which touches the ground and all the other junk around it when I first went by but was moved to where it is now (which was about 2 hrs. from when I first spotted it). It was pretty shocked admittedly. It also could easily be damaged or torn given where it is located.

It angers me, how about you? This is anti-American IMO.

...ribbons, made in China, on their Middle-East gas-intensive SUVs.

See them all the time here in the City.

(Edited to add: I'm guilty of using the flag on "advertising" in my sig line stamp for Gore.

However, I have NO intention of discarding it, or putting it in the virtual trash...so I won't be guilty of that one.

And, I believe with all my heart that Al Gore is one of the choices that will defend and protect the Constitution that the flag partially represents.)

4. Flags mean nothing when they stand for nothing. Every since Reagan I wante
american flags to be out lawed because it seems people care more about it then what its supposed to stand for, truth, honesty and justice for all. When an american is more out raged over how a flag is treated then being out raged about government spying, justice for those with the most money, time to put aside the flag and find a meaningful banner to stand under. How about america for all americans and not just the few that can buy government?

8. I am outraged by all of the things you mention

but I have not forgotten the American flag as it bears the scars of all of the things that have occurred in our name and now is treated as trash/junk.

No, I have not and never have wanted to forget the flag of our country. It is a symbol that I respect. I have my father's flag in my closet, carefully folded and stored along with his Marine Corps uniform from WWII.

If the American flag has become a negative symbol, we, the American people are responsible for it being this way. Therefore we must correct it by doing things like investigating and prosecuting the criminals that have used the flag of America as a guise for their acts.

And more than anything, we must organize and VOTE!

11. Yeah I understand where your coming from but sadly most american
flag wavers are just like this one, fly it to show you voted for the right wing then discard when your let down and never mind what happens to it. I'm noticing around the city the flags on cars are showing signs of wear and tear. They will probably fly off their rotting holds and end up on the side of the expressway along with the other trash.

14. The flag is still, in my opinion,
a meaningful banner. Much good in the world has been done under that flag. We just need to reclaim it, not give it up.

7. They just kind of tossed it in the back there, behind the paint cans
didn't even bother to roll it up. Could have at least waited until after Memorial Day.

10. I stopped flying my flag the day we invaded Iraq. And I won't fly it again
(not even on Memorial Day or Veterans' Day) until the last US soldier is home.

Maybe not even then.

16. I had a moment of zen earlier this year,
and told my Veterans For Peace brothers I could no longer carry the flag as we marched in demonstrations. I was a difficult personal decision. I'm ashamed of my flag and my country.
