Canadian press member practically calls P.M. Harper a liar to his face !
Edited on Thu May-25-06 05:43 PM by glarius
Did anyone see the piece on CBC Newsworld about Stephen Harper's press problems?...He was in B.C., talking to the local press.... He said "it's too bad the Ottawa press corps won't allow their members to ask questions at my press conferences" (not exact quote, but close as I can remember it). CBC's Terry Milewski spoke up and said "what you are saying Prime Minister is NOT TRUE! He then went on to say that what the press corps was objecting to was the P.M.'s office deciding who would ask the questions and not being able to decide for themselves who would ask questions. Harper merely took a sip of water and repeated "it's too bad the Ottawa press corps won't allow their members to ask questions at my press conferences" and his press person called on someone else for a question. The arrogant bastard!...I was impressed with Milewski's daring in practically calling the Prime Minister a liar!

1. GO Terry!
I hope he is challenged by a member of the press EVERYTIME is tries to spout that lie. The arrogance of lying about the press while talking to the press. NO media should let him get away with it regardless of what Province he has run away to, imo.

2. The press HAS to keep explaining this because Harper is passing it off
to the public (most of whom aren't aware of the truth), as just the orneriness of the Ottawa press corps!...I believe Harper would not be so high in the polls if Canadians realized that Harper LIES!

3. What an arrogant jerk
just so you know, I am ashamed that the Prime Minister of Canada is from Calgary Southwest (with apologies to Natalie Maines for nicking her quote)

4. Welcome to DU, WoodyTobiasJr!
We can only hope that his duration at 24 Sussex Drive is very short and, re Calgary, I despise Harper but I still like Calgary! I, too, live in Alberta, St. Albert.

7. Thanks all!
And Glarius - you'd be surprised at the number of Oiler flags I've seen on cars here. I think most people here are actually rooting for them. It's like Bizarro World

8. Well, Edmonton or Calgary...it's all still Alberta eh?....Here in Ontario
all we have to root for is the hapless old Maple Leafs who didn't even make the play-offs! You're lucky your province has two teams to choose from!....:)

10. Wow...
You seem to have the same problem that we have in the US--leaders who pre-screen who they want to talk to. Obviously, Harper has been getting tips from Bush. Ugh.

13. If Harper thinks the Canadian press is going to roll over and play dead
like the American press has for *, he's got another thing coming.
