AOL Poll: Dixie Chicks "Flip-Flopped" r.e. B* Please DU!
Edited on Thu May-25-06 06:20 PM by WiseButAngrySara
<snip>
The Dixie Chicks are finding controversy yet again. The band's lead singer Natalie Maines apologized after she made "disrespectful" remarks about President Bush in 2003, "but I don't feel that way anymore,” she now says. “I don't feel he is owed any respect whatsoever." Some country radio stations are snubbing the band's new album and Reba McEntire even slammed them at Tuesday’s Country Music awards.

Seems when they post polls about Bush's job performance, handling of the war, it is usually 75% against him. This is surely being freeped.

I don't know if it's because people who use AOL tend to be first timers into the world of internet, which makes them not exactly progressive thinkers, or what it is.. but AOL polls always skew toward Bush.

33. so that's where all the damn wingnuts are...on aol
I keep hearing about how they are the silent majority or something...

whatever.

money talks...we'll see how the album and tour goes. I downloaded some of the CD today. I thought it was pared down and I miss the banjo and violin that they used to use more...It sounds like they are moving away from country a little and that is a mistake. Natalie Maines really isn't strong enough of a vocalist to front a pop bad. What made them so special is their traditional blue grass instruments on modern sounding songs. There is plenty audience out there for that, and a lot of people are buying this just on principle anyway. I don't think they should change their style at all, they don't have to. I don't understand this poll if Bush has a
<30% rating and yet so many people supposedly disagree with the Chicks. What a joke this poll is, needless to say.

This CD will go platinum - these women are the top selling female band of all time. THeir last tour sold out everywhere AFTER her comments in London. As much as Clearchannel tried to smear them, and the media tried to portray them as being "spanked" by the public.... Just wasn't the case.

Maybe it's just that the Chicks found a new audience, and I am betting a lot of the country fans are also having second thoughts about bush also.

51. I'd always wondered why anyone would pay
for AOL dial up until my daughter had the opportunity (if you would call it that) to use AOL at her old job or at a friend's house. (can't really remember where) But she told me that she wasn't able to access most of the sites she tried. Those would be primarily political - democratic - women's rights... So - I would guess that most people using AOL are brainwashed at best - and probably happy to watch FOX News while they wait to connect. Also, many of them use AIM (their Instant Messenger) and think they have to be signed up with AOL to use it.

Hard to believe - at least it used to be. I thought about checking it out for a month with one of their free CDs but decided it wouldn't be worth it. Once AOL is in your system it's a bitch to get out. (shock)

57. I think it is likely being freeped; not pre-determined. For reasons
unknown to me, the Dixie Chicks have become a symbol of hate by rethuglicans, much like Jane Fonda aka Hanoi Jane. It's a hatred of amazing strength, IMO. Very strange, but given their reptilean brains, maybe not so peculiar after all.

69. Now this is a dumb question
Does the band need country music fans to be successful?

Um, they already ARE successful. Most successful women's group in history.

71. And so was the last question. Instead of asking whether Reba's comment
was appropriate, the way they framed all the questions for the Chicks, they asked 'were you surprised?'

74. Politics and music
Not always a good combination. Everytime we hear an artist who says something we like, many people are alienated as well. A fact of life. It's like running a business, if you run off half your customers chances are your sales numbers won't look so hot.

75. Done!!
And I checked out the top 50 conservative songs at the bottom of the page.
Um, I don't think I'm even on the same planet as these people, because I'm sure a lot of those songs are NOT 'conservative' songs.

Exception: 2 questions moved 1% each. :eyes:

Statistically impossible. AOL is just catapulting more reich-wing propaganda.

82. Did you look at the AOL forum about this?
It's hilarious, especially the nutcases who say that the Dixie Chicks' careers are over. If they're doing so badly, then why is their album the no. 1 seller on Amazon (and probably elsewhere too, but I haven't checked)?

It's funny that the same people who claim to be so effing patriotic don't understand that one of the founding principles of the USA is the right to free speech. Where was the "don't criticize our President" bunch when Clinton was in the White House?

85. Who cares? I guarantee the more they attack Natalie
the more success the Dixie Chicks will have. Also, I don't give mainstream country music the time of day anymore. I just can't associate with that blind unAmerican thinking they have concerning freedom of speech and conscience.
