I hate, warmonger, Donald Rumsfeld. I hate CondiLIAR Rice. I hate Colin Powell. I hate Paul Wolfowitz. I hate Perle. I hate Libby. I hate KKKRove. I hate everyone and anyone who supported the ILLEGAL INVASION of Iraq.

Have you watched the documentary on HBO, Baghdad ER? If not, WATCH IT. THIS IS WHAT THESE RAT BASTARDS HAVE DONE WITH THEIR FUCKING lies. THIS is what they have done because of $$$$$$$$ and OIL. This is what they have done for nothing but GREED. I hate them all. Our poor soldiers are paying the price. They lose legs, arms, fingers, hands, eyes and their LIVES....for WHAT? FOR GREED!

One of the ER doctors told a joke that DISGUSTED me. He told this joke after they had to amputate a leg from a soldier: "The doctor says to his patient, Well, I have good news for you and I have bad news for you, which do you want to hear first? The good news or the bad news?" The patient: "Give me the bad news first that way when you give me the good news, the bad news may not seem so bad." Doctor: "OK, the bad news is, I had to amputate both of you legs." Soldier: "Wow! How could any news cheer me up after THAT bad news?" Doctor: "Well, the good news is the soldier in the next room wants to buy your shoes!"

IS THAT DISGUSTING? The doctor's excuse was...they tell dark humored jokes in order to stay sane??? That joke was SICK and turned my stomach. I didn't find it the least bit funny. Who could possibly joke about people whose lives are destroyed forever....BECAUSE OF LIES? Had this fucking war never happened, ALL of those soldiers would have their limbs, eyes, lives and healthy MINDS. It truly made me SICK.

I HATE the psycho-in-chief and his entire warmongering cabal for what they have done! If you have HBO...see Baghdad ER. EVERYONE in this country should see this documentary. Maybe then they would hate this fucking war as much as I do.

1. Though I certainly understand where you have
been inspired to feel such intense hatred, have you ever considered that these less than human beings may just thrive on our hatred? They certainly aren't about love.

I wonder about that quite often. Whether hatred keeps them in power.

the nefarious nature of EVM's nor the fact that even the manipulated polls reflect widespread distain towards our so-called leadership despite the media being their total apologists.

I just think anger is supposed to be a motivator for redemptive action and such hatred can be paralyzing.

Here is a thread from last year that addressed this whole matter.

That we know of. These days I use "Diebold" as short hand for all the tricks - no machines, butterfly ballots, blocked roads, clear choice purging voting rolls etc.

on display by the medical providers.

I know if I was routinely involved in amputating limbs off young, healthy men and women, day in and day out, for no apparent fucking reason, I'd resort to some kind of humor in a bid to stay fairly sane.

I hope you can understand how hard it this situation is for those who are caring for our soldiers. MKJ

7. I'm sorry. I saw no humor in it.
I could understand any other kind of joke being told in the ER to stay sane, but a joke about amputating soldier's legs? It really did make me sick and very, very sad.

9. I can tell you wouldn't understand hospice nurses, either.
Humor is a way of coping. Get together with some hospice nurses or pediatric oncologists sometimes. They will blow you away.

But when the time comes to use their skills and heart to care for patients, they deliver the goods.

You obviously have never to cared for and then let go of patients, on a day to day basis. Nor, have you had to be party to saving their lives by disfiguring them.

You have no problem passing judgement, though. MKJ

10. Hospice nurses and doctors joke about CANCER? I didn't know that. I'm not
a nurse and I've not been in the situation to care for cancer patients, but I would be highly offended by anyone joking about cancer...it's NOTHING to joke about. My father had prostate cancer and had anyone ever made a joke about it, well, let's just say I wouldn't have laughed.

I posted that I can understand OTHER TYPES OF JOKES TO STAY SANE, but NOT jokes about soldiers losing their limbs in a war based on LIES. A joke about cancer isn't funny to me either. Cancer is a DEADLY disease. What's so funny about that? Joking about anything like that is offensive to me.

volunteer some of your time to help severely ill or dying patients.

Hospices are always needing volunteers.

Before you judge, you should walk a mile in their shoes. And not spend three quarters of your OP trashing the good people caring for our soldiers. MKJ

edited to add...why you're in no position to judge, from your post..

I'm not a nurse and I've not been in the situation to care for cancer patients, but..
as you explain why it's so wrong, again.

15. I trashed his JOKE and find it misplaced and vulgar. Sorry I touched a
nerve. I take it you tell such jokes and find them funny? I don't. Joking about things like cancer and soldiers losing limbs in an ILLEGAL WAR is distasteful no matter what the excuse is, release valve or not. Tell OTHER kinds of jokes. Joking about legs being cut off is NOT funny.....ESPECIALLY when it's about soldiers and illegal wars. It's disgusting.

18. I can attest to this, too
Edited on Sun May-28-06 10:56 AM by Husb2Sparkly
Back in the late 1970s I worked for a few years at Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore. Clearly one of the very finest health care institutions on the planet. The staf was incredibly caring, skillful, and competent - right down to the janitors. It really is a great place.

It is also in the heart of one of Baltimore's worst neighbohoods and their ER is the destination for the results of the Saturday night shoot-em-ups, drug ODs, battered women and kids, etc., etc., etc. The worst of humam inhumanity comes through those doors at a frightening rate.

I became friendly with some of the ER staff - docs, nurses, others.

Black humor is everywhere. Humor that would make your head explode with its seeming callousness. **Really** callous. But it is purely a coping mechanism. No one can see what they see there and not be deeply affected. No human can stay sane in the face of it all without some method for release. The callousness of the humor in NO WAY equates to the very real caring nature of the people who deal in it.

My youngest son's SO is an ICU nurse. Again, a very caring person. VERY. But she uses black humor, too.

Its that or its pills or booze, I guess. That environment really does play hell with one's head.

I can only imagine what a battlefield ER would be like.

on edit: One point I failed to add ..... the humor, such as it is, is generally reserved for private/staff-only times and places. I'm not aware of any of it being in earshot of patients or patient families.

32. In fairness, I also understand where In_cog_nito's coming from
As I think I said, I didn't see the show, but to make such a joke *to the patient* seems, on its face, at least, pretty insensitive. But I would ascribe no further weight to the comment than face value, particularly in what it says about the otherwise anonymous doctor who said it.
