at DU, at

http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_mesg&forum=141&topic_id=21370&mesg_id=21457

I just went back to that url, and the McCain ad is now gone. It's like SUBLIMINAL advertising. It said, "Help John McCain," and it was pushing www.StraightTalkAmerica.com. You want to read about McCain being "named one of the best 10 US Senators"? Go there.

Isn't DU vetting these ads? I DON'T WANT BUSHITE REPUBLICAN COWARDS AND TRAITORS AND TOADIES BEING PUSHED AT DU!!!! Goddammit!

:wow: :grr: :grr: :grr: :banghead: :grr: :grr: :grr: :wow:

4. No one needs to take a pill. This is just crap

PBS is now a huge infomercial for the BushCo Regime and it was one of the last mainstream areas that normal free thinkers had. Now in addition to all news networks, national networks, newspapers, radio, and most mainstream internet websites, search engines, and portals we have to worry about the only place left where we are a little safe from the BushCo regime.

6. Take "This is just crap"..
..and the absolute rage expressed in the original post, and channel that rage somewhere that matters.

How about getting mad at the right-wing meteorological fascist who compared Al Gore to Hitler? (http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=364x1302339)

There are bigger issues than ads on a goddamn message board, you fools.

Someone compared Gore to Hitler, Holy Crap! This is a MAJOR issue we all need to be upset about, this could have earth shattering ramifications!

You are so right. :sarcasm:

To the OP:
The ads do suck, are ugly and tacky and have no place on any serious website.

There are 90,000 registered members here and only 1200 or so donated during the last fund raiser. That oughta tell ya all ya need to know.

Do your self a favor and get the Adblok extension for Firefox or Mozilla for the ads, I don't know what can be done about the Gore - Hitler thing.

11. If you don't think Gore=Hitler is a big deal..
..then you clearly don't understand how the media works.

Do yourself a favor and read The Daily Howler. You'll learn all about right-wing memes and media "scripts" that have been destroying Democrats for years.

It is a big deal, and it is a big issue, and if you think DU's text ads are more important, well..

12. Yea good idea
Everyone needs a good scapegoat.

Look the Dems have a problem because of the Dems.

The reason the right has been bad mouthing the Dems for years and getting away with it is simple. The Dems are NOT standing up for anything, including themselves, except during election years you will see them half assed try to stand on their feet.

The reason is the Dems are bought, sold and paid for every bit as much as any Repub.

Plus the fact the "elections" are rigged, so to the average American the Democratic party is non existant.

13. So why are you here?
Edited on Sun May-28-06 01:30 PM by SeveneightyWhoa
You don't think there's anyone else to blame for Bush's power? It's the Dems fault, not the media at all? In your mind, it appears that Democrats are pathetic.

You think the Dems "are bought, sold and paid for as much as any Repub" -- so Dems = Repubs.

And the elections are rigged, so there's no reason to vote.

In conclusion, to you, Democrats are to blame, they're pathetic, they're equal to Republicans, and even if any of these things weren't true, there's no use because they'll never win another election. Tell me again why you're a Democrat, and why you bother coming to this forum, if you believe all of those things?

The sooner people face it the better, only when you know what you are up against can you do anything about it.

But feel free to put words in my mouth and insinuate that I am a freeper or that I don't belong at this site. Oh and I'm NOT a Dem, just voted that way the last 30+ years because of the lesser of two evils thing.

Won't get fooled again.

Also I've been a member here since DU had only 400 members but with all the moderates and right centrists 'round here lately, I don't come around much any more, I just get annoyed with all the cheerleading and inside the box groupthink.

3. With the amount of anti-McCain posts here
I highly doubt that any DUer will act upon the ads to support him.

8. click on the ad
Click on the ad. Then McCain pays for the advertising, and you don't vote for him. It's a lose-lose proposition for him.

14. Thousands of people visit this site for a leftwing (i.e., mainstream)
perspective. Some are better informed than others. And DU is going to use that higher participation to advertise for Republican Bush ass-kissers like John McCain?

Such ads:

--promote his Bush ass-kissing, pro-war, pro-corporate, pro-fascist views
--give him access to this readership (gullible and not gullible)
--repeat his name over and over again, which helps his Bush ass-kissing, pro-war, pro-corporate, pro-fascist views gain currency
--make his Bush ass-kissing, pro-war, pro-corporate, pro-fascist views seem "neutral" or "mainstream" or somehow "acceptable" to leftists
--SELL space to Bush ass-kissing, pro-war, pro-corporate, pro-fascist views that could and should be going to issues and politicians who defy and oppose Bush and his fascist junta.

I'm sorry, but DU is NOT neutral territory. I have to put up with the propaganda that fascists have billions of dollars in funding to pay for, everywhere else in the war profiteering corporate news monopoly world. They have the extremely unfair advantage there of big bucks. They should not be given that advantage HERE.

I could maybe go along with a clever DU scheme to put a special progressive TAX on rightwing fascist ads. (The more fascist lies, the more tax.) But to treat these ads as "business as usual" is wrong and corrosive of the purposes of this web site, to provide an ALTERNATIVE to the bullshit we and the rest of the American people see everywhere else.

I do not object to the ads, in general--IF they are placed on the top, bottom or sides of the page, and not streamed down the middle, interrupting real news and opinion--and IF they are VETTED for obnoxious content (like "Support John McCain"--and the Ann Coulter book promotion the other day).

The DU owners have to support the site as best they can, and as they see fit. But it is self-defeating and alien to the purposes of the site to permit rightwing ads--as if fascists didn't have enough bought-and-paid for venues to promote death, hatred, lawlessness and the end of American democracy.

16. I'm having no trouble ignoring the ads, especially the goofy ones
I think it's heartening, in fact, that these targeted ads aren't as targeted as they think.

And if it puts cash in the drawer for the site owners, good on it. You're NEVER gonna find an ad that EVERYONE agrees on...there will always be someone who finds something to object to.

Help John McCain? The old fool NEEDS help...he needs help to transition from public life to a nice lawn chair by the pool, under a big umbrella to keep him out of the sun, where he can enjoy his retirement. So long, Johnny!

Look on the bright side--obviously the ad placers are still living in the past, when McCain was actually seen by some, desperate for any change, as a viable centrist candidate for a split party 'unity' ticket in the 04 matchup. They aren't factoring in the subsequent sweaty Florida huggy bear business, or the speech at Hatred University...they think people will BITE. But the fact of the matter is, people think Craven Johnny BITES!
