I love the Google Ads, especially the evil, scary right-wing ones.

I love the Google Ads, especially the evil, scary right-wing ones.
Know why?

They expose the delususional, paranoid DU'ers whose opinions I would otherwise trust. Now I know to take their viewpoints with a grain of salt.

If a John McCain ad on DU -- which you don't have to click on and have no more than a second's exposure to -- makes you angrier than, say, a meteorologist comparing Al Gore to Adolf Hitler in the Washington Post (http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=364x1302339), you need to be in a hospital.

Get off your computer -- go to a hospital. (Certainly try to avoid the Republican-donor-owned ones, since knowledge of this fact will probably give you multiple brain aneurysms. "What? Republican fascist doctors are working on my psychoses? HOW DARE THEY!!! ARRRGHH I HATE REPUGLITHUGS!!!")

Everyone starting a new thread about seeing a new evil Google Ad that they disagree with, and how its another sign of unavoidable apocalyptic memes and the Republican propaganda permeating their blood-brain barrier, goes on my ignore list. And they should go on yours, too. These people are more dangerous than any right-wing propaganda, because it's these "DUers" who bring down the Democratic Party from within by elevating their schizophrenic delusions to an observable conciousness. Gross!

1. Click on those once in a while
because that's when Google tosses DU a nickel, when you clickel.

If you're going to support DU, you might as well let the right wing help you.

3. Not only does DU get the nickle . . .
. . . but it's paid for by the advertiser. . . Now I wouldn't even dream of suggesting that we make multiple clicks, maybe even hundreds of clicks on those evil sites . . . nope, wouldn't even dream of it.

4. That's what I've been saying all along.
These GoogleAd-averse folks don't seem to comprehend simple concepts.

For them, these ads aren't a simple way to take money from right-wing interests while enriching DU -- at the same time, with a simple click! -- rather, they're propaganada and should be exterminated.

What I'm saying is, these people are hurting DU. And DU mods are buying into it by shutting out all of these conservative ads simply to placate the masses of ranting, raving, raging DU'ers who can't handle a freakin' text ad. How do these people go outside for Christ's sake?

6. Skinner clearly stated NOT to click on the ads if not interested.

"5. Feel free to click on ads which interest you, but don't be fooled into thinking that you can support DU by running all over the page clicking ads over and over again: first, it will artificially inflate our CPM rate so we won't get an accurate idea of how much money we can raise through the ads, and second, Google considers this kind of behavior to be fraudulent. So even though the ads are new, please treat them as you would on any other site."

7. Correction:
He didn't say you can't click on the ads if "not interested". Who is the decider of whether you're "interested" or not? Is there some type of Big Brother phenomenon going on here at DU?

He said not to "run all over the page clicking ads over and over again", which is a big difference.

A few clicks here and there are okay; dozens of clicks aren't.

2. I think of all the money they are wasting
posting their ads here. Besides, it lets me know what they are up to, and it sometimes makes me laugh.

9. I think "they" are buying keywords, and Google places the ads on..
keyword rich and similar type pages. In other words, the more diverse the posts, the more diverse the ads.

8. But... but... those ads are polluting our Precious Bodily Fluids!
I'm already used to them, and I've actually clicked on a few. Either way, sometimes it's a hoot just to see what AdSense determines are appropriate ads for a certain thread.

And if it brings in a few more bucks for DU, I'm all for it.

10. Stupid Question Alert?
Edited on Sun May-28-06 01:38 PM by MrPrax
Where are these ads?
I keep reading about them, but I never see them? Are they on the front page or something? My adblocking system is either 'marketable' or might indicate a 'problem' as to how people might use this site...

:argh:

How can I form a negative opinion about them to post if I can't find them ...waaahhhh...I want inclusiveness...so much for the Big Tent...
