And it breaks down into three basic camps within FR

First off, and most dangerous, is the "How dare you attack America and the troops like this you liberal traitor scum" camp. Unfortunately this knee jerk hatred towards anybody who questions the US and its tactics is seems to be about half the responses. This sect represents all that is truly frightening about the FR crowd. Irrational, emotional, zealots that cannot overcome their cognitive dissonance regarding any evils caused by this administration.

The rest are split into two basic camps. The first of these is "This is war and shit happens. We knew this before we came in, and we accepted it as a cost. The true story is how we manage to keep these atrocities to minimum compared to how violent and unforgiving our enemy is." A perfectly valid argument. Anyone who thought things like this wouldn't happen is not cut out for politics. This argument is perfectly rational political manuevering to minimize the impact as they realize events like this hurt support for the war tremendously.

The second is that "The problem is that you are preemptively judging these marines. They haven't even been issued a court martial yet. Wait on all the facts before you judge them." Also a valid argument, but only provided that those making it would condemn the marines responsible wholeheartedly should they be convicted and they are not simply hoping that the time such a trial requires will kill the issue as its relevance and impact fades with time, which is not very likely. However, one cannot condemn a valid argument simply because of its source. But Americans, even Freepers, must understand that the rest of the world will surely preemptively judge these marines guilty.

Understand your enemy! Converts are not made through ignorance of the flock.
