Gangs in the Military

Someone sent me this video of a Fox News report on gang members who are joining all branches of the military. They serve, learn all about weapons and warfare, then use what they've learned against law enforcement on the streets. Disturbing to say the least - and I'm a bit surprised Fox would do such a piece that paints at least some soldiers in a bad light.

Just another indication our country is going down the drain.

How big or how real the problem is we don't know yet, could be overblown but according to the article they've found a high number who don't want to leave their gangs when done with service. It's normal to join to get away from the gangs but some are worried about this part.

the report I watched was from LA - but I'll put this link in my OP, it's essentially the same info.

It seems they may not be joining to get away from gangs, but to learn stuff they can use on the streets once they return. I guess it's to be expected when the military is desperate for recruits and will take just about anyone.

6. That's a possible concern

Another aspect I'm wary of though is the racism aspect bryant69 pointed out, although some gang members are among the most dangerous people I've ever seen most are just kids who want to belong somewhere. At least that's how they start out. We've had a bad record of hysteria with the "crack" epidemic and other things, it's worth making sure we've got a real problem and taking it slow. Otherwise we can end up doing more harm than good, crack down on what isn't such a problem and just make life worse for them, just increase the reasons they have problems in the first place.

10. The video I've linked is from El Paso.

I watched another from LA - blacks, hispanics, even white supremacists were included.....maybe the angle here is to justify arming police more heavily as someone else suggested in this thread. Both videos are doused with a heavy dose of hysteria.
