Californians: Anglides or Westley? And why?
I was all set to vote for Angelides, but in the last week or 2 the airwaves have been bombarded by anti-Angelides commercials, which have, frankly, cast serious doubt in my mind about him. They portray him as a Sacramento real estate developer with no regard for the environment or even environmental laws. If the claims made in these commercials are true, I would definitely not want Angelides for governer. Who are you voting for and why?

2. Westly
I haven't watched the ads so don't have all of that crap to color my opinion of either one of them.

I like Westly better. I like it that he is not a career politician which is how Angelides comes off to me. Also I don't think that Angelides can beat Ahnold. It's the raising taxes thing.

But I will support whoever the nominee is over Ahnold.

4. Angelides
His track record is good and I know more about him than Westly. I think he can beat Arnold.

9. Exactly - who ever can beat Arnold
We already know Arnold's track record for breaking promises and catering to the rich.

He has been working on the "New and Improved" Arnold image ever since his ass got handed to him on a plater after the special election he called.

Don't forget all 150 MILLION of the campaign contributions for Arnold in that Special Election came from wealthy corporate interest OUTSIDE the State of California They want to use Arnold and California as the testing grounds to destroy working class Americans

6. I'm leaning towards Angelides but only because Boxer endorses
him - I don't really know much about him, but I do trust Boxer. I'd like people's opinion of the race between Jackie Speier and John Garamendi - I like both of them so......

8. Not 100% sure...

though I am leaning Angelides. This is one place I'm looking at for help.

I'm leaning Angelides because a lot of inappropriate development can be curtailed locally and he's the devil I know on that score. Also,Westley's attack-ads turn me off. The exaggerations he's making about Angelides development infractions are pretty bad. I'm not impressed with his EBay gig or Stanford affiliation. Afterall, Rice came to us from Stanford. Also Angeleides supports SB840 single-payer health insurance and Westley wants the insurance companies and corporations to come up with a plan. Shades of the current prescription mess?

10. Well, the Sierra Club has endorsed Angelides...
...so they're apparently OK with his environmental record. Angelides has been clean as a whistle (as most politicians go), and he's got the endorsement of people who matter to me: Boxer and Feinstein, all of the unions, the Sierra Club, and so on. I've always found him a solid and honorable public servant, even if he's not as handsome or charismatic as Westly.

***and keep in mind, those commercials you're talking about are paid for by Westly.

11. Angelides. He stood up to Arnold from the start.
Westly is a slick centrist corporate guy and Angelides has fought dirty in the past. All of the major liberal endorsements have gone to Angelides, Sierra Club, Boxer, Teachers Union etc.

12. I'm pretty annoyed at both of them
Edited on Wed May-31-06 06:16 PM by LeftCoast
They've thrown so much monkey-poo on each other that they both smell. Meanwhile, Arnie's cutting deals with the Dem legislature and getting his mug on TV shoring up the levies, etc. I went from thinking he was a sure-loser to resigning myself to yet another self-inflicted Democratic loss. I sincerely hope I'm wrong. In the meantime, despite their propensity to sling poo, both candidates are good Democrats. At this point I lean slightly toward Westly, primarily because I feel he'd have a slightly better chance in the fall.
