2. Does it hurt DU's ad revenue though? |
|
I would be willing to see them if it helps DU. I don't want to shut it off if it has a negative impact. Don't want to be a downer for your "happy days" though.

Skinner post from that thread
"you turn off the ads, it will affect our income. The more ad impressions we get, the more money DU gets. So, if you don't mind the ads, we hope you will not turn them off.
But we think it is appropriate to let Donors turn off the ads, and we won't hold it against you if you choose to hide the ads. If you donate to DU, you should not be forced to look at Google Ads. "
I've gotten used to them so I won't turn it off. It really is the least any of us can do.

6. I'll leave them on. I find it hard to believe that people living in the |
|
21th century cannot ignore advertising. Ads are everywhere from newspapers to bathrooms to buses. I tune 95% of it out.

8. Same here, I don't even notice them but now and then I actually LOOK |
|
to see what they're selling. The other day I noticed something I had been planning to buy anyway so it was a chance to go ahead and get it. ;-) (uh, what's an 'impression' exactly? Is that different from 'clicking'?)

7. I'm sure to get fried for this because I'm not a donor, but |
|
I've heard there are anywhere from 25,000 to 40,000 members at DU. However it took an incredible 7 days to get 1,200 donations. Are advertisements really going to be that profitable here? Plus, if you are a donor you can turn the ads off, but the non-donors can't? I'm not sure I understand this marketing plan, the small number of people who DO spend money won't see the ads, and the people who DON'T spend money will see the ads.
For the record, I haven't donated because I don't do my financial buisness on-line, or donate my personal information to anybody. Just my choice, not a statement about anything.

9. Well, I can't speak for Skinner, but it seems to me the ads became |
|
a somewhat necessary option precisely because of what you pointed out...that so many DUers are cheapskates. Present company excepted, of course.

for expressing that in a way that a "less than 300post non-doanating-poster" cannot.
Makes me feel a bit "un-clean" at times to not be a donor, but I am just not an online spender.

13. It's easy to write a check and pop it in the mail. Peace, Kim |

Meaning that even if you don't buy online you could still donate to DU by check.

14. You can donate offline |
|
You can send a money order via snail mail. You can include a note saying it is for Skelington's donation & apply the star to that user name.
You don't have to give any personal info. I didn't.
However if you would rather not donate the choice is your's. I was just pointing out your reason doesn't really exist.
