All this DHS funding stuff is just a ploy to get the Reds and the Blues at |

each other throats.
By getting us to fight over the crumbs of the Homeland Security money and seeing each other as enemies, we won't be uniting against the REAL enemies in DC.
This ploy is working perfectly. I am sure Rove and Norquist and the rest of them are laughing in their tea/coffee/beer as they are watching everyone pound their fists and write editorials pissing all over each other about how important THEY are and how unimportant the other guy is. All that does is emphasize the differences between the various areas and encourage people to believe the divisive stereotypes about the "Libruls" and the "Rednecks" that the Neo-Cons and the Fundies want us all to believe.
Pitting us all against each other serves no one but them.
Instead of fighting each other for the crumbs, we should be fighting the DHS and its bureaucracy. We should be sticking together against DC. Each locality should not have to defend the money it is getting. Everyone should be working together to defend this country.
We are playing right into their hands by haggling over this money, and saying that other areas don't deserve the money as much as we do. EVERY CITY DESERVES TO BE DEFENDED.
It is disgusting that Bush is making us all fight like hyenas over a carcass for the funds to do this..AND WE ARE DOING IT!!!

Is a typical exercise in Congressional pork-peddling. The entire program, whjatever its intended virtues at inception may have been, has become simply one more vehicle for Representatives and Senators to bring back bucks to the folks at home in the district or the state. Every district ahs to get something, every state has to colect a bundle, however remote or unlikely the chance the funds will address an actual need. Because of the peculiar construction of the Senate, the most remote locales have a positive advantage in the competition for available funds. The real security needs of the nation and its people are quite beside the point of the exercise....
