It looks like o'connor will go down as the justice who |
|
broke the gender bias in the supreme court, and will also go down as the justice who helped destroy women's civil rights
ironic if you ask me

as a matter of fact, she did state when Roberts was first nominated, that she was disappointed that the nominee wasn't a woman.....she has no control over who the "boy-king" will appoint.

She has the power to rescind her resignation and since the appointment is for life unless the appointee resigns, King George couldn't do diddly about it.

5. You can't blame o'connor |
|
It is like blaming the woman for getting raped.
O'Connor has a right to retire. Bush has the responsibility to nominate a good person in her place and Senate has the responsibility to decide if Bush did a good thing.

6. Retiring was a voluntary act on her part |
|
and you can't convince me that she's not smart enough to know what sort of person Bush is likely to appoint and how unlikely it would be for that appointment to be voted down by a Republican Senate.
When you couple that with the responsibility she bears for Bush being in office in the first place, I think we're quite within our rights to hold her to a certain level of culpability.

7. You could just as easily blame Rehnquist |
|
After all, Roberts was set to step into O'Connor's shoes until Old Bill went boots up. If someone had just hooked him up to a Schiavo-matic for a few weeks, Roberts would have replaced O'Connor as everyone originally intended.

9. Except Rehnquist wasn't percieved as a moderating influence |
|
the way that O'Connor was. Some people think that she actually cared about the right to choose and civil liberties, and nobody thinks that Rehnquist cares about those things. My guess is that that's why people tend to hold her a bit more culpable. Higher expectations.

She's in her late 70s, I believe. I certainly hope to be able to retire by the time I'm her age.

11. She voted to install * in 2000 |
|
Whatever else may be said about Sandra Day O'Connor, either to her credit or blame, she carries the stigma and the responsibility of having voted in 2000 to shut down the Florida recount, and thereby to help steal the election for *.

Didn't she once say she wanted to retire during a republican president so he could appoint the replacement? She knows damn well and doesn't give a damn about us. The republican party doesn't care about anyone. Not even the women in their own family and/or party. I'm sorry her husband is sick but I'm even more sorry we're all going to suffer for years to come if Alito gets through. Say hello to a dictaroship people. That's what Alito wants the REPUBLICAN president to have. Say goodbye to us ever getting the White House again.

can rot in hell for all eternity after suffering a painful lingering death.
Five individuals helped changed the world for the worse. They should sleep with that. They've effectively wiped out any good they might have done prior to that vote.
