Hopefully This Is Allowable To Post.
I was inspired to share this for the benefit of the many that may not have read it in detail.

From the DU Rules:

"Democratic Candidates and the Democratic Party

Constructive criticism of Democrats or the Democratic Party is permitted. When doing so, please keep in mind that most of our members come to this website in order to get a break from the constant attacks in the media against our candidates and our values. Highly inflammatory or divisive attacks that echo the tone or substance of our political opponents are not welcome here.

You are not permitted to use this message board to work for the defeat of the Democratic Party nominee for any political office. If you wish to work for the defeat of any Democratic candidate in any General Election, then you are welcome to use someone else's bandwidth on some other website.

Democratic Underground may not be used for political, partisan, or advocacy activity by supporters of any political party or candidate other than the Democratic Party or Democratic candidates. Supporters of certain other political parties may use Democratic Underground for limited partisan activities in political races where there is no Democratic Party candidate.

Do not post broad-brush smears against Democrats or the Democratic Party. "

This has been a public service announcement. Feel free to go back about your business :)

I read the British version of "Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix" last year. What the bloody (buggery) hell does "wotcher" mean? Thanks :)

46. Wotcher!
Wotcher - Brit. Slang - a form of casual greeting (corruption of "what cheer"). Also can be spelled "Wotcha"

what cheer! In C.20 often rendered "watcher" or "wotcher", and thought of as mainly Cockney, it is a greeting going back early C.18, if not earlier. James Isham uses it in "Observations and Notes", 1743 (Hudson's Bay Record Soc., XII, 54: Leechman). "EDD" notes it as Yorkshire dial., ca. 1860. 'The universal greeting of labourers and countrymen' (David Garnett, "New Statesman & Nation", 20 Feb. 1937). P.B.: but Garnett's remark is a generalisation, and certainly not true of, e.g., that large stretch of the East Midlands where "Ey-oop!" is the popular greeting.

wank - noun: the act of wanking, e.g. I'm having a wank; somebody in the habit of wanking ; a contemptable person.

67. Wikipedia - Wank.....
Wank is a mountain in the Bavarian Alps, by Garmisch-Partenkirchen in Germany, close to the Austrian border.

It is 1780m tall, and is served by a cable car, the Wankbahn, which in twenty minutes takes one virtually to the peak (valley station 728m, mountain station 1742m). It is possible to spend a night at the peak of the Wank, in an inn called the Wankhaus which was built in 1911. Many English-speaking tourists travelling in nearby Austria make a detour in order to go to Wank. From the peak there are views over Garmisch and Partenkirchen.

There's nothing wrong with disagreement with the party's methodologies, but when the platform and principles start getting attacked, I do get more than a bit irritated.

And it is a free country, so people who don't like us Democrats are free to gripe about us...somewhere else!

34. The Monkey wanted it to be a White House "office"
...answerable ONLY TO HIM. The Democrats pushed to make it a cabinet level position, with a full and verifiable funding stream, that would have to come to Congress to get their dough, and as such, would be fully accountable. Bush fought it tooth and nail, but lost, because any one with a brain in their head knew that if you were gonna HAVE a Department of Homeland Security (and something along those lines was INEVITABLE after nine one one) than it was far better to have one that was real, and not a bullshit smoke-and-mirrors job.

It covers everything from security to education to health care to the environment, and outlines the party stance on all of these issues. If that ain't a platform, I don't know what is. But wait, let me do your research for you. Here is the platform, voted and approved for our 2004 Convention in beautiful Boston, Massachusetts: http://www.democrats.org/pdfs/2004platform.pdf Compare and contrast it with our "agenda" if you will. My, aren't they similar!

And I am not angry. I do believe Google is everyone's friend, however, and the site I provided is pretty clearly demarcated. Please do not project your feelings on me.

31. I think this site should change it's name to
Democratic PARTY underground. Because that is the real point. Not expressing the truth of Democratic values-but merely supporting the Democratic party no matter what it does. It took me along time to realize this. But DEMOCRATIC doesn't just or certainly in essence mean a political party. It means what those core values are. And if the values are gone, (and yes folks part of "values" is standing up for them even if you ~oh big drum roll~ are going to lose anyway! aka they don't have the votes so why even try..sniff sniff) then the party line is all that's left.

I never had to consider it before since I've never voted anything but Dem. (okay Nader in 1996-but I could smell the Clinton that would not stand up for us even then-and of course, Dole wasn't a real contender) Maybe the world would have been better off anyway. Nothing makes sense to me anymore. I'm losing everything, what I thought my country was, what I thought the Democrats were, DU will be the least of it.

49. Actually, I think that is not the case, but what you might be seeing is
that people with stars, more often than not, started out without them, posted for months or even years, became familiar with the rules from either taking the time to read them, or seeing what happens when other people violate them, and as a consequence, they are more familiar with the way things operate. These folks, after spending time on the site, decided that it was worthwhile and deserved their financial support.

I had a post cut from the Israel/Palestine forum because I unknowingly posted a rather benign, architectural picture of the Al Aqsa mosque there (I found out later that no pics are allowed in that forum, except maps or charts or something like that, and I guess you can LINK to a photo--there's gotta be a beaut of a story behind that rule, I'm guessing). I didn't access the forum directly, but from the latest page, so I didn't see the little rules banner at the top of the forum. But hey, ignorance of the law is no excuse...I won't make that mistake again!

And others have not done so, so please stop deceiving. Furthermore, my agenda is to support the democratic party, its members, its elections, its agenda, its values and its mission. What is your agenda if you are so offended of a post that shows the rules of this very site, that condones an attitude of support for the democratic party?

One must wonder what anothers agenda is that gets so bitterly offended at the *gasp* notion that if we are on this board we should generally have support for the democratic party. How absurd! LOL LOL

And furthermore, your hypocrisy is amazing. You are the catalyst right now for the disruption with your bitterness and attacks, not me. Please check yourself. Thanks.

73. No, you are the one misstating
I have no problem with support of the Democratic Party nor Skinner's rules. Nothing I have posted indicated otherwise. I do have a problem with someone taking it upon themself to decide what is appropriate for DUers to discuss and what is not--which you did repeatedly on rather large threads you posted re: the ALito hearings. Last I checked you were not a moderator, nor administrator. Those who ARE do an excellent job.

75. Aren't You Declaring, By Your Attacks, What Is Appropriate Or Not To Post?
YOu are so vengeful in your remarks. If you have issue with the rules set forth for DU by the owner of it, feel free to take it up with him. I was just simply posting those rules for the benefit of those that may not have ever read that part in them. Nowhere did I state myself that it is inappropriate or make any declaration as such, so the fact you are so vehemently attesting to that just shows your only intent is to use smear like tactics on me with no further purpose but to flame and attack. I also offered no declarations in the Alito thread. It was a question. But it seems to me you have severe difficulty handling anyone who replies in a way that doesn't conform to YOUR standard of what the opinion should be.

I am through defending myself to you, as when someone is as out to get someone as you have displayed here it really is irrelevant and a waste of time to attempt to reason with that person.

Bye.

81. You mean other than telling a poor person about "responsibility"?
Nah--you're not judgmental. When someone posted about his credit card company raising his interest rate to 29%, you solded him about his lack of responsibility. Now you're telling us to shup up if we don't agree with you. Nah, you're not a rightie. Not much.

86. Lies, Spin, And Deceit
Since that is what you are spewing, your comment about being a rightie is a bit hypocritical. I also never scolded anybody about their lack of responsiblity nor told anyone to shut up if they don't agree with me. Your childish flamebait tactics much like the other poster will not sway me, and I am done replying to your lack of substance posts as well.

60. This is the second opionion of yours that I've read today....
The first post (that I read) was about judging somebody who was complaining that his credit card company had raised his rates to 29%. (You talked about personal "responsibility) and had nothing bad to say about the credit card company. Now, you're trying to tell us that if we have an opinion about the Democratic Party that is unlike your own, we should shut up or you'll run and "tell" on us. I have one question; WHO the hell are you?

62. Oh My God LOL LOL
Talk about spin!

Firstly, I was quite polite in the credit card response, and it was also quite appropriate what I posted. It was an explanation for the act, as the thread itself had asked for. So sorry I didn't just automatically jump on a "how dare they" bandwagon without putting any intellectual thought into the situation. So so sorry bout that, since it obviously offended you so much.

Secondly, those are Skinners words in the thread post, not mine. I think there are many here who in all seriousness have no idea about that policy, so I felt it good to post when there were about 6 to 10 threads next to each other that were so anti-democrat in tone. Furthermore, as far as running and telling, well, that is just a delusion on your part I guess, since there is no hint whatsoever of that sort of mentality in this thread.

So lastly, I would be of the opinion that it is you that is the one far too quick to judge, and blowing things out of proportion just for the sake of drama. It also seems apparent that it is YOU that has a severe problem with those that have different views from your own, based on how bitter you sound in your post above. I am entitled to post opinions every bit as much as you. Get over it.

93. Wow, Another Gunner I See. No, They're Absolutely Not. This Thread
Should not be flamebait at all in my opinion, and the majority of posters were quite supportive, Thank you. But responses with such bitterness and sarcasm as yours above, now they are definitely what causes flamefests to begin with.

And the credit card thread had no flamewar with me or the poster at all, as our back and forth for 2 responses was quite polite and respectful. So you may want to read it again before you go off ranting about something that never existed to begin with.

I'm pretty sure this will be my last reply in this thread. Those of you trying to bait me with your bitter attacking methods have wasted far too much of my time and energy already. Bye Now.

65. I'm a socialist
Can I still post here? I've also voted communist party in the past.

and Lieberman is a piece of shit

And I advocate this, from The Nation

~snip~

Here's a "top ten" list to get the ball rolling--and to plant the flag for positive, aggressive post-Bush (and post-New Democrat) near- and long-term change:

Real National Security
The United States is protected by two oceanic moats; the only truly serious security threat we face is the possibility that terrorists will acquire nuclear weapons. We should shift half of the roughly $500 billion we now spend on a cold war-style defense posture and counterproductive interventionism to a fully funded antiproliferation strategy, to homeland protection and to the elimination of energy dependence on the Middle East. The first priority should be an all-out effort to reduce nuclear arms and nuclear materials. And we should begin a massive campaign to reduce proliferation pressures in Iran and North Korea, including the use of economic incentives, and work to ease the Pakistan-India nuclear rivalry.
Single-Payer Universal Healthcare

Real Social Security

Universal Daycare

A Rebuilt Educational System

A Thirty-Hour Week

A Fair Tax System

Worker-Owned (and Community-Owned) Means of Production

Planned New Communities

A Twenty-First-Century Regional America

~snip~
