UK police apparently worried about Klingons...confiscate bat'leth...
THIS five-foot martial arts sword capable of beheading a man was recovered by shocked cops in a house raid. The terrifying Batleth weapon is identical to one wielded by Klingon aliens in the Star Trek sci-fi films. Officers seized the three-handled sword — which has huge pointed blades at either end — at a home in Gloucester.

...

Local Insp Mac McGarry wielded the sword, which he said had been sharpened to kill. He said: “It is a particularly nasty weapon which could easily take someone’s head off.”

4. Without faster than light travel, it'll take about 400 years...
Which is okay, some trekkies think Star Trek is reality... they're already in orbit...

5. It's not 'martial arts'. It's 'martian arts'.
I wonder when they got the note to enter the home.

Far more scary, why the fsck would a fan of the show make one that works for real? The guy is bonkers.

6. Plenty of more effective weapons out there.
This just gets attention because it's exotic and scary looking, and because it's connected with Trekkies, who many consider "odd."

Yes, it's scary looking. It was designed for a TV show, to be a scary looking weapon. Duh. Frankly, due to it's shape, the Trekkie is far more likely to hurt him/herself than any intended victim.

But if you compare it to, say, a long sword or a decent sized axe, it's much less effective. I'd worry far more about a skinhead with a baseball bat than a Trekkie with a Batleth.

11. I always thought that they look rather silly
like a good way to sever all of your own tendons in both arms, a real sword would seem more effective. Then again I bet it would look really cool to see someone juggling a few of them.

10. Oddly enough I'm not scared of Trekkies
"Terrifying" weapon indeed! If I saw someone with that, I would run over and talk about how cool it was, how was it made, etc. "Shocked cops" my rump! This is the deadliest thing they have seen? I'm more afraid of people with guns folks. Or like was said earlier, skinheads with baseball bats. My friends with sword collections would be amused at this for sure.
