You must see the movie "Why We Fight"
it comes at the question of how we got into this (and other) war from a slightly different angle. Sort of "feeding the beast". We have added to the huge military industrial complex the think tanks that actively lobby for war.

The movie shows clips of McCain saying all the right things but then doing the exact opposite. And the stuff about Eisenhower is fascinating. They interview a father who lost his son in the trade towers. And folllow the process of his grief through to hearing Bush say "Iraq had nothing to do with 9/11".

We really need to think about how serious this war machine is. Now with the talk about Iran, I wonder if there is any way to stop it now that it has gotten started.

Highly recommended.

2. It's chilling...
all the stuff that Eisenhower said about the "military industrial complex" has come true. Just think if old Ike were around today, they'd label him a pinko

4. "Why we Fight", is like "F-911" in that...
...it doesn't really show me anything that I did not already know, yet I highly recommend them to my un-informed relatives.

8. I guess I knew, but hadn't really realized how K street
and the think tanks have made the problem worse. They think of the reasons to go to war and appear to be independent but they are financed by the companies who build the bombs. I have no objection to a work project to employee Americans financed by the government. But why is it that no constructive project developed? Is it the fear factor? (If you don't fund us, the reds might kill us all?) Or something else? We should fear what we are doing to the environment, our health, what will happen if our kids grow up with inadequate educations, with science moving out of our country.

The part about the B-2 bomber was sickening. When the company got the contract to build it, they made sure that they had people in every state employed making some part or another for the project. That way, no senator or congressman would want to vote to defund the project. Now, we are making these damned things and they are of no use to us but we can't stop because none of our leaders wants to vote against something that will result in a loss of jobs in his or her district.

I saw it on pay per view in my hotel. I never pay for a movie in my room but I was stuck in a hotel alone while away for work and really wanted to see it. I'd invited the conference attendees to join me.

5. It is pretty good...
but the British showed it on TV and so there are copies available on the Internet, if you don't have a movie theatre that is showing it...

Information ClearingHouse has a video streaming copy:
http://www.informationclearinghouse.info/article8494.htm

AND I know, on good advice, there are many many other copies available on the various P2P services ;-)
