Why are the Dems participating in the GMA debate? |
|
Any involvement by Democratic Senators just gives support that this is a real issue. Shouldn't every Dem Senator simple walk out of the Senate and say "Bye, we'll be back after you finish with this nonsense."

not BELONG in the senate.

>>>>> Sen. John Kerry, a Massachusetts Democrat who suffered when Republican voters flocked to polls featuring state-level gay marriage bans during the presidential election, called the latest move "pathetic."
"We're bogged down in Iraq with troops killed and maimed every day, we've got record gas prices here at home, and the Senate has decided the most important thing to do is debate a doomed, trumped up, divisive, ideological constitutional amendment," Kerry said in a statement. "What a disgrace." >>>>>

2. I was wondering the same |
|
I thought maybe Reid was pulling a fast one to start the debate yesterday, because he made it sound like he wanted to put forth something else to debate on (immigration). Needless to say, a few minutes later he was debating on the amendment, and thus the dog-and-pony show began.
Why debate it? Can they not just say, "ok, time to vote!" What is the point in going through this nonsense?

3. that's what senate democrats do....daily...weekly...monthly |
|
instead of acting like an opposition party and telling the repubs to eff off. I would like to see a walkout. even the lamest democrat could say he/she was walking out because this debate was a waste in a time of WAR, WAR, WAR, even if that democrate hated gays and lesbians.

4. Because the majority wants to waste as much time as possible so |
|
they don't have to address important issues; god forbid they actually had to take a stand on something critical to the American people.

However, they voted for Alito, Hayden and the renewal of the Patriot Act and they won't talk about impeaching Bush or Cheney. They have done everything they can to lend legitimacy to the regime whose power rest ultimately on election fraud and to give the illusion that the yuppie fascists are just another conservative administration to be opposed loyally and abided by when it scores a legislative victory.
Those who proposed this amendment aren't serious. Even if one believes gay people ought to be stoned to death, one could oppose this amendment because it takes the power away from each state to arrive at its own solution to the issue.
The Democrats would probably do themselves some credit by walking out and returning to vote it down.

8. That would look great on the evening news. |
|
I’m sure that the average viewer (voter) would respect walking out.
