Thirteen year olds copulating in the streets.... |
|
I saw it outside the jr. high school! I asked one of kids what was up. They said the FDA approved a new drug that prevents cervical cancer, STD's and pregnancy. That was all they had been waiting for.

I couldn't come up with a one-liner on another thread - this one beats all.
BTW - the drug is approved for women ages 9-26. The religious right will be going bonkers this evening.

15. I don't think they'll be denying it to |
|
women over 26 but they may think that the majority at that stage in life are either already infected or not as likely to get infected anymore.
I think that if a 27 year old asked her Dr. for it she wouldn't have a problem getting it.

25. Perhaps already infected, but there are plenty of women out there |
|
in their fifties and older, who have had only one sexual partner in their lives but have become widows... At one time in the recent past (and perhaps still), the fifty through seventy age group had the fastest growing rate for AIDS infection precisely for the reason that they were getting back into the dating market and felt they were more safe from infection.
If every woman over thirty or forty or fifty have already been infected, then every woman over thirty or forty or fifty is at serious risk of cervical cancer?
If so, I can see that a great career move for young people today would be oncology.

26. This virus is the premiere cause of cervical cancer |
|
and always has been. I've read a lot of FDA reports and just a quick view of this one indicates, IMO, that the vaccine will be recommended for the ages listed but I don't see anything that says it would be refused for someone that asked for it.
The only problem, as it often is, may be insurance? I don't know what medicaid or medicare will think outside of FDA guidelines. The first approval is often the first approval, I'm pretty sure that Merck will be looking at approving other groups ASAP. This vaccine is one of the great discoveries of our time, and I say that as a non-Merck scientist.
I truly hope that it will be made widely available, it will save thousands of lives.

I think most 13 year old boys are fully functional in a techincal sense, but not in a finesse sense.

and listening to loud music, dancing and generally disrespecting their elders! The first step on the slippery slope I say.
Good for the FDA is this is true. Now if they could find a way to make teenage boys more nearly human, or give them vocabularies consisting of more than "Uh", "Huh", "Yeah" and "Whatever" they'd really be on to something.
