PREDICTION: We *can* convince President Al Gore to run in '08
Friends,

Those of you who are trying to convince President Al Gore to run in 2008, take heart! I just communicated with a friend of his who says that he thinks Gore can be convinced. I think personal opinions like this are worth a whole lot more than pundit's speculations, and I want you all to redouble your efforts to convince President Gore to run!

-Ben

1. I'm already convinced he will run. NO ONE has said they are
running yet. It is too soon and the press will distroy them. He will delcare his run when the time is right.

2. I think Al Gore should be given serious consideration. As far as I am
concerned, he measures miles above any other possible candidate.

This country and the world need his experience.

...but I wouldn't put it past the Repugs to suddenly whip out all the 'stolen' votes from '00, clearly showing that Gore won that election, and then claim that he can only serve for one term because he has already been President. Of course, this would leave Shrub free to run for a "second term."

How scary is that? ;)

7. It would never hold up, even assuming they had the balls to do it.
B*sh took the oath on Inauguration Day. He is the de facto President. I would accept a gambit like that only if the Repukes agreed that everything B*sh did during his time in office would henceforth be null and void.

8. Impossible.
The popular vote is only for show anyway. It's the Electoral College that has actual power. Therefore, Constitutionally speaking, there is no controversy over whom won in 2000.

So they'll have to go back to the original plan of passing a Constitutional Amendment making W President for Life.

12. I believe that Al is being as honest right now as he possibly can be...
He has no intention to run right now. He is resistant to the idea right now. The process of running for political office is toxic. He is making a *great* difference right now with "Inconvenient Truth" and getting wonderful, wonderful energy from the difference he is making.

If we keep pouring energy into him so he becomes more ready and we 'prepare the ground' -- keep working to change the citizenry so they are ready for Al -- then...

14. Hook up Al to a lie detector and ask..
.. Do you intend to run for president? "No." <Detector says: Truth>

We have work to do. In addition to convincing him that he can win, Al needs to know that he can do it without jumping into the slime pit.

I hope it's possible. But I don't bet on it.

..I'm new here as well. I wanted to help 'Prepare the ground' for Al as Indy says above.

What does that mean? Encourage everyone to step toward the light. Even hillary. If Hillary makes a pro-enviro speech, as she did last week.

Or hillary kicks the shit out of Coulter. Good on her. Man tho, she simply has to come around on the war.

RFK would make a fine VP candidate. One of these days when I got the time I'll post what I found out in the last dem convention when the party wouldn't put RFK speach on the web site. hint: DLCer's are scared shitless of RFK and his powerful enviro stance. I was eventually able to get the full text placed on the site but it wasn't easy and took about 24 hours. RFK sent my a autographed copy of his book.

Diebold and Carlyle too. The election stealing, royalty dodging, war pig polluters are one of the same. Either Al or Rfk could kick their criminal balls up into their nasal cavity if given the chance.

Is there a room (do you call this a room here?) for discussing elections?

27. I have a feeling it was.
I felt kinda silly, near the end of the line or one thousand (yes, one thousand).

But it had to be said. In fact, it was probably MORE important that I was the THOUSANDTH person that said it, rather than the first or, worse, only.

I think he's gonna run. Yeah, see my thread. :)

41. The NPR interview was last week. Monday or tuesday I think.
What had me convinced was the way he talked. There's a difference between the way a casual interviewee and a presidential candidate talk. Gore sounded like a presidential candidate, everything was "politically correct" in the literal sense of the term. I picked up on it when he mentioned 9-11. Most people say "...when those planes hit the towers." Gore said something like "...when those planes struck the World Trade Center... and the Pentagon... and that field in Pennsylvania..."

It was all very honest, all very smoothly delivered, all very political, and all very right.

it will be 8 years overdue. I have to be honest; I wouldn't blame Gore if he didn't want to run again. He got BURNT in 2000, by both parties. He basically had to stand there and gavel his own defeat. I'd vote for Gore anyday.

Not only does America need Gore, the whole damn world needs him. I think he's one of the few people in the entire world who can lead us out of an environmental disaster. He not only has the intelligence needed, but also the stature and the gravitas so that people will listen to him.

40. President Gore won in 2000 and he can win again in
the year 2008! I voted for President Gore and I will vote for him again. I sent him an e-mail message asking him to run again. I let him know that "We The People" need him badly.

President Gore stood up for "We The People" years ago and he will always do such, but the Republican right wing corporate mainstream news media will always report anything bad about him they can dream up, does not matter if it's true or not.

I wish Ted Turner could start another news network! If only he had not sold CNN!

46. I just saw "An Inconvenient Truth"
He. must. run. That's all there is to it. We need him in the White House in order to help save the planet. What he's doing is wonderful, but if he's not in a position of the highest power he won't be able to effect change the way it needs to be done. Maybe he lost in 2000 for a reason -- maybe this is his calling, to be in the WH at this time (2008).

I may actually have an opportunity to meet him sometime this summer. If I do, I'll will try to make an impassioned appeal to him to run, telling him he has at least 90,000 supporters here on DU -- I don't think I've heard anyone say they don't think he should run.
