Powell told the UN Zarqawi had a leg amputated in Baghdad. Another lie
http://www.csmonitor.com/2006/0609/p01s03-woiq.html

Previous claims of Zarqawi's death or injury have proven to be wrong. Even on the eve of the US invasion, in February 2003, then-Secretary of State Colin Powell told the UN Security Council that the presence of Zarqawi in Baghdad - apparently in hospital to have a wounded leg amputated - was evidence of the regime's ties to Al Qaeda. Those allegations were never proved; in an April video, Zarqawi walked easily, without an apparent limp.

2. The Amazing Zarqawi
He'll probably rise from the dead by Sunday.

I am not dead yet
I can dance and I can sing
I am not dead yet
I can do the Highland Fling

I am not dead yet
No need to go to bed
No need to call the doctor
Cause I'm not yet dead.

BODIES:

He is not yet dead
That's what the geezer said
No, he's not yet dead
That man is off his head

He is not yet dead
So put him back in bed
Keep him off the cart because he's not yet dead.

7. Looks like Powell was doing alot of personal convincing before that, too.
Found this HuffPo reply to a criticism on a Kerry thread about Coulter

>>>>>>

Thanks for all the feedback. I wanted to take a moment to respond with some quick thoughts:

First, to the question Doofus asked (and yes I'm chuckling at that name) -- I have addressed my vote in 2002. Many times. It was the vote I regret most. It was a mistake. I trusted the promises made about diplomacy and I trusted intelligence we now know was overhyped beyond belief. No, I didn't trust Don Rumsfeld, I trusted Colin Powell who is a Vietnam vet and whose judgment I took seriously.

I can't change any of that. I take responsibility. That's partly why I am working to end the war and get our troops home in 2006. Watch the Senate floor next week for more on this.

Next -- just to recap; my thought on Ann Coulter is that we don't just get ticked off, we need to make her a liability and force the media to hold her accountable rather than just cover her as 'colorful.' Olberman did a great job on this.

9. I feel duped by Colin Powell about the eminent danger of Iraq.
I respected him, and even said during the first gulf war, "I would like to see him as President." He as well as the opinion of local Iraqis that immigrated to the U.S. recently, is why I originally supported the war.

11. If his chief of staff is to be believed, and I think he should, during the
crucial timeframe before the IWR vote, Powell was being lied to, as well. So when he told guys like Kerry and Biden and other military minded lawmakers, that the war was not a done deal on the QT, he still seriously believed he was influential in the decisionmaking process, as well as Scowcroft, Baker and Bush1 - turned out that Bush2 and Cheney froze out everyone from the first war.

12. And this phony "leg" story was part of the reason for invading Iraq
Edited on Thu Jun-08-06 09:12 PM by NNN0LHI
Powell said getting the new leg in Baghdad proved Saddam was his buddy.

I guess this shoots that lie all to hell.

Powell is one big liar.
