Got a phone call from MoveOn yesterday... |
|
And had the guy call back today. Apparently another member turned him on to DU not too long ago and he thinks the site's pretty cool.
Anyway--they're forming what amounts to action committees around the country to help stage "media events" and to operate phone banks to call out of blue state America into red-state America. They want to focus on subjects that are neither left nor right, but uniquely American. Like gas prices.
One of the plans he shared with me is one I think might have a great effect.
I'm considering the possibility of getting involved in one of these groups in my local community, but I hesitate simply because my time is at such a premium as it is. I barely have time and energy to do all the things I'm already doing, but I want to do SOMETHING to make a difference. Sure, I write some good opinion pieces, but I'm also preaching to the choir here.
::sighing::
I'm going to sit in on a conference call tomorrow and see what others have to say, and see how much I can actually get involved. I'd like to. I really would. But I always seem to be exhausted as it is, and I'm not sure I'm up to taking on more responsibilities. I've got a day job, active writing deadlines, and a yard that desperately needs upkeep.
Guess I'll know more tomorrow.

1. Will emails be blasted through the listserv? |
|
Just curious--was an email sent out, or was it just a hashing of some new strategies MoveOn is considering? I think it's a great idea to almost bridge the gap between "red" and "blue" states, considering a number of issues, like gas prices and govt accountability affect ALL Americans, not just a specific segment. Keep us posted :)

4. My yardwork, apparently, will not... |
|
Got a nasty letter from the city today.
Not sure what some of it's about--they're referencing a disabled vehicle on the property that simply does not exist. Griping about blackberry bushes and some trash we need to take to the dump in the backyard. I can accept that. I'll stop procrastinating.
The car thing has me baffled.

7. If you got a letter from the city, that indicates some kind of fine |
|
for non-compliance...sorry! As far as the car goes, it sounds like some neighbor complained and threw in a car for dramatic affect. I have never really been able to understand why someone complains about a neighbor's yard, unless it poses a hazard, of course! Good luck!

8. I have twenty days to comply... |
|
before any fines are levied.
It would help if I knew what they were talking about a little more specifically. My wife's going to call them up and try to find out more.
The car might have been a neighbor's left in front of the yard...not even in front of OUR half of the yard (the people we're buying it from own the other half...which I suspect might be part of the problem too). The car is gone now, so it's a bit of a non-issue on that side of it.

3. Yard? I can understand your really not having time with workand writing, |
|
but yard? My first thought: Buy/make a BIG peace sign and stick it in the middle of your yard. If any of the neighbors - or you - need a reminder as to why it isn't as nice this year as it may have been in past years you can point them to the sign and remind them there is a war on -- in Iraq and here at home.
...just my opinion.*
*This opinion should be disregarded if doing yard/garden work is a de-stressor for you that is very important in helping you keep your sense of balance and joy in life.

9. I do it while I'm writing anyway... |
|
LOL
Or working the promo lists I'm on.
I'm on the computer anyway.
I mentally multi-task pretty well.
