Bush Military History Project #9
Edited on Tue Jun-13-06 10:47 AM by exlrrp
Journal entry #9

This is being written as journal in democraticunderground.com and cross posted at Myleftwing and Daily Kos. I urge anyone interested in this series to obtain the book Unfit Commander by Glenn Smith, the only book or website that gives you all of Bush’s papers in chronological order. Where easy internet references are not available I give page numbers of this book for reference.
Thanks you to all who have participated and corresponded with me so far. I hope I’ve answered all your questions. I can be reached at concernedexlrrp@hotmail.com

I hope my Constant Readers ( and I know there are a few of you, Bless you) understand that this is a long story that needs a lot of explanation—its been confused and distorted by highly paid experts for decades! And there’s so much more to cover—the media aspects, the pushback on CBS, the bogus CBS investigation and more. But first you need to understand the falsifications of Bush’s record, which is extensive and has really BAD implications for Bush and his superiors. I mean REALLY bad! They committed actual crimes, LOTS of crimes, provable crimes like falsification of official documents, monetary fraud and obtaining a discharge through Fraud to name a few. I don’t think for one minute that Bush would see jail for this but I’d sure like to see his “honorable” discharge publicly torn up. And Hodges, Martin and Bartlett (and others) in jail and THEIR honorable discharges torn up too. It could happen!. And they know it! All thats stopping that from happening is the lack of an official investigation
When I say George Bush and the Republicans CAN’T have an official investigation of the CBS papers and his records, I am so not kidding! And that’s why there wasn’t one.

As promised, today we’re going to start discussing the crimes of George W Bush himself but before we start, I want to bring in the best evidence existing of the crimes committed by Bush and Bush’s superiors. That is a report by Gerald Lechliter published in the NY Times http://www.nytimes.com/packages/pdf/opinion/lechliter.pdf that proves everything I say and more. Anybody interested in how the crimes of Bush and his superiors were accomplished MUST read and understand this report. Its more long and tedious records researching but This is El Smoking Gun de Smoking Guns. Lechliter levels serious credible charges and gives us the specifics—the specific missing documents (AF 44s and others) and he proves falsification crimes to the nth detail in ways I won’t, because he covers it so well.
It is AMAZING that, although published in the NY Times in Feb 2004, there was virtually NO discussion of it anywhere in the media And SURPRISE!—this during the same time period that the media was spending countless hours debating the Swiftboat falsehoods. We’ll be looking at the overall strategy of the Swiftboat “operation” and how the media completely abandoned any basic look into Bush’s records in a subsequent BMHP installment.
Lechliter charges in no uncertain terms that George Bush's superiors falsified Bush's documents. He charges in no uncertain terms that George Bush was paid and discharged fraudulently. He charges in no uncertain terms that the explanations for Bush's records are "...obfuscation or outright deception..." He charges in no uncertain terms that Bush did not meet the requirements for satisfactory participation.
And thats exactly what I’m saying, about the same things, but coming from a different angle. His report dovetails with this BMHP study perfectly , there is no conflict, just illumination.
He states: "... connivance at ensuring
Bush paid no penalty for his flagrant violation of regulatory
requirements for attendance at training and taking a flight physical
in no way excuse Bush's disgraceful, selfish behavior..." That’s what I’m saying also!
These are incredibly serious, authoritative charges that have been leveled at Bush, the TXANG and the whole USAF. George Bush and the USAF completely ignored these charges, although if they are untrue, then Lechliter committed certain libel by alleging that crimes were committed on Bush's behalf and that his superiors were derelict in their duties-- which I also allege. There has been no answer to these charges at all--instead, the Bush administration has stonewalled the whole matter entirely, wanting to take the attitude of "Boys Will Be Boys" concerning this matter--but boys can't be boys if it means breaking federal and military law as is evident here.
This document is included in this BMHP study because it details specifics of the fraud, showing the exact of the falsifications to which this report alludes. These charges have been verified as accurate by the author of this study and the charges are reiterated here.
(See my demand to the USAF to resolve this: http://www.dailykos.com/story/2005/9/28/124119/186#2 for further amplification of Lechliters Report)
Lechliter gives us the nuts and bolts of what I’m saying here. He talks about the same falsifications as I do but from a different angle. Lechliter wrote this report right after the “document dump” of Feb 2004, when the Bush administration scrambled Bush’s record up. He wrote it to counter the lies of Albert Lloyd, a supposed disinterested party who’s signature is on several of Bush’s documents. I’m writing about the part the CBS memos play in Bush’;s records, which were released 7 months after the document dump.
I will be referring continuously to Lechliter’s Report throughout the BMHP investigation. Please start reading it if you really want to understand how the falsifications were done.

The original offense Bush is guilty of is failure to accomplish his physical. This was a military infraction of low level but all of the subsequent fraud is not. This is another case where the coverup was worse than the crime.
As mentioned before, the basic scheme to get Bush out of the TANG was to let him “ghost” (i.e. .to goldbrick, to carry him on the rolls without his actual attendance) while keeping him listed as a pilot, long after a Flight Evaluation Board -->required by regulations!<-- should have decided his fate. They skipped the required Board and kissed Bush off in September, 1972, no doubt hoping they’d never see him again.
But a military pilot can’t just decide not to take his physical, walk off the job and not come back without required procedures being put into effect. Bush walked away from a $million taxpayer paid flight training that he’d been jumped over 500 other guys to get.
Paperwork is generated for every move in the military. As Lechiter points out, there should have been paperwork covering every missed day, or days he reported that weren’t unit training days. There is a 10 point procedure for every changed training day that includes formal requests, counseling, signoffs and approvals and generated paperwork. There is none of this in Bush’s paperwork.
The military is not a “drop in” hangout for Bush nor anyone else, one can not show up whenever one feels like it. At least its not supposed to be and there’s rules against it’s being so. Yet this is what the Republicans want you to believe—that Bush had carte blanche to show up whenever he felt like it. And lots of times he obviously didn’t feel like it, as a matter of fact ALL the time since Apr 1972 according to the records of the units he was supposed to be serving in..
Lets step back and look at some of what we know. Bush was turned down for his 1st transfer request--he had to make a 2d on September 5th, which his superiors approved the next day (2 days later for Hodges). Great service he got from his superiors, eh? Anyone else would have waited weeks, possibly months—but anyone else wasn’t illegally bailing out of a pilots career, pun intended.
The date of the request and the date of the approval prove the subsequent OER was falsified—Bush didn’t “clear base” on May 15th as stated, but in Sep—and that Bush, Killian, Hodges, Martin (and others) knew and know that the May 15th date is false. (Killian, by the way, is dead, a convenient person for the others to hang guilt on)
“Lt Bush has not been observed at this unit during the period of this report….” When we combine that with the facts that there is NO record of him in the unit records of the 111th since May 1972 and that the commander of the Alabama unit said he never showed up there—and the AL unit records agree with that—we see that both commander of the only two units he could have been in say that he wasn’t there the whole time and that the units records agree with that.
We need to make an important distinction here: the UNIT records (and the commander’s official word) is that Bush wasn’t there but there IS records of his “attendance” for that year—in his pay records! http://news.findlaw.com/hdocs/docs/gwbush/gwb72-73milpay-p1.html Bush was paid for 14 days that year.
So how did George Bush get paid -->by the taxpayers!<-- for 14 days during that year when all the evidence: the records, the word of his possible commanders, the “nonmemory” of everyone in those units, said he didn’t? That’s enough evidence to convict anyone else in the world! Where was he during these days and what was he doing to earn his pay? And why hasn’t anyone demanded answers about this yet??
We only have George W Bush’s word, against all the evidence that he served the whole year—how good is that?
That’s what we’ll be looking at next time. Please: Start reading Lechliter’s Report if you want to stay current with this study.

1. What makes Bush so special
The interesting part is who the exceptions were, since Bush jumped the line so far. If you look at it from the outside then Bush sr. wasn't that important to have him put on top of the list, however the Champage unit as a whole is very important and does contain clues to why Bush was included.

Italic text: mine

The most infamous champagne unit was the Texas Air National Guard 147th Fighter Group, at Ellington Air Base in Houston. During the Vietnam War many well-connected sons landed in this posting, sometimes with the help of politicians such as Ben Barnes.

* Lloyd Bentsen Jr, son of Lloyd Bentsen
Johnson's fav. replacement for Ralph Yarborough. Was the political enemy of George sr though

* John Connally III, son of John Connally Jr
Friend of both Bush and Johnson. Both worked together during Nixon as well

* the son of John Tower
Friend of both Bush and Connally. Bush sr even wanted him as Secretary of Defense

* George W. Bush, son of George H. W. Bush
Both Connally and Tower would have given the weight

* James R. Bath
James R. Bath is the odd one out and I can't find anything about his background, however his career is very closely connected to Bush, Bentsen and Connally.

* seven members of the Dallas Cowboys
Unknown reason. Somebody must have been a fan of the Dallas Cowboys. Johnson?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Champagne_unit#147th_Fighter_Group

So their initial transfer to the Texas National Guard must have been related to their connection to the President himself. During Nixon the same applied for Bush. Bath is still a mystery since he got a similar cover as Bush and it isn't clear what his connections were. It isn't clear what happened to Bentsen, Connally and Tower. They could have finished their guard duty.

Nevertheless something odd was going on at the Alabama National Guard. It couldn't have been a random transfer. Bush probably knew that they would cover for him there without requiring to take the random drug test.

Recommended.

2. When Bush enlisted....
When Bush enlisted, his dad, GHWB was the Congressman for the district that includes Ellington AFB. He controlled the purse strings for the TXANG, he was tremendously powerful in Texas politics (still is) Even after he was defeated (by Lloyd Bentsen, for Senate, in 1970) he was still very powerful. He became Reprsentative to the UN shortly after losing to Bentsen but he still retained power in the Republican Party--one of the jobs he later held was Chairman of the GOP
As such, the officers in the TXANG were falling out of their chairs to accommodate him.
GWB's transfer was anything but random or routine--not with all the falsifications that can be proven.
"Bush probably knew that they would cover for him there without requiring to take the random drug test."
There's no "probably," Bush was a willing accomplice to fraud, as will be shown.
