Damn is he taking him apart. I cringed when I heard he was the guest, but Jon is picking him apart good.

3. Yep, saw it.

I think the studio audience was pretty well behaved, considering the probable political persuasion of most of them.

I do wish, though, that Stewart had asked Mehlman what the Republican Party plans to do to try to win over angry, Bush-hating Democrats like ourselves. Not that anything would work.

4. at this point his job is to get his base to the polls
And I'm seeing a lot of Republicans suddenly become "Independents".

5. Oh my goodness, that was GOOD.
Jon isn't usually that aggressive, but he wasn't giving Mehlman any deference. None. Loved it. And I don't think Mehlman realized how against him the audience was, or that Jon wasn't just cracking wise.

21. Did he ask Mehlman if he was gay?
I am hoping that it will be shown again tonight, I've been looking for a transcript. I love Jon Stewart, he should have made Mehlman say whether he is or isn't. Mehlman and Rove are always denying their gender issues.

No wonder they are so mean

8. I was stunned by Mehlman's admission that his party is greedy and cynical.
My roommate and I just stared at each when he said that. I thought he must be leading into a joke or something, but nope.

20. Me too!
I had to replay that part 3 times. I couldn't believe I wasn't missing something. I kept thinking he was going to somehow make a joke, but he didn't. He didn't even seem to realize what an astounding admission he made when Jon made his comments about, "did we get that on tape/" etc. I saved this recording to show friends. Just TOO weird...

10. The clip's posted on Crooks & Liars:

http://www.crooksandliars.com/2006/06/14.html#a8707

Ken Mehlman stepped onto the set of The Daily Show last night and was so easily carved up by Stewart that you could see Jon was holding back..

Video-WMP

Video-QT

Stewart: You're the guy--I have sympathy for you because you're the guy who has to spray perfume on these turds. You know what I mean? You're the guy that has to go out and like no matter what (garbled) It's not an easy job. I mean what happened to these guys...

Did Ken say that Afghanistan was a failed state? When an interviewer (fake of course) asks pointed questions to the Mehlman's out there; they just cave. I keep posting these clips and keep shaking my head at how these talking point junkies are so easily debunked. Stewart has that ability. Mehlman actually looked very nervous.

11. Why is it that the RNC chairs are always approachable...
and the DNC chairs are stiff as boards?

Stewart has interviewed the current chairs of the DNC and RNC as well as the immediate past chairs. The RNC guys enjoy their interview, and Stewart can be seen to like them. He doesn't like their politics or their party, but he likes them as people.

The DNC chairs are always spewing the party line and appear to be odd. Man, we're in trouble.

Two thumbs up to Stewart for yet another dynamite interview.

16. You mean people *might* be turned off by robotics?
I thought people loved robots? I have to say I feel bad for the RNC chair, it really is like putting perfume on turds. Hey maybe we could do a switch? :sarcasm:

18. What DNC Chairs are you referring to?
Howard Dean? Always spewing the Party Line???? I think you have gotten lost on the "Internets" somewhere. Jon doesw in no way like the people or their actions but he is always civil which is a foreign concept to Republicans.

12. Anyone else catch the 'talk with the audience' remark?
Stewert said something to the effect of that they had a "talk" with the audience before the show. Normally, I'd think it was part of the schtick, but it seemed like a serious comment.

13. Not a bad idea...
With a very short time for the interview, it doesn't need to be laced with silly cheers every time Stewart asks a tough question.

19. I did.
He did that on a previous show. I think he appreciates the audience enthusiasm, but would like to really engage in serious discourse with the interview subject, so I took it to mean that he'd actually suggested to the audience to express themselves when appropriate, but allow the subject of the interview to speak his mind uninterrupted. I am so enjoying Jon Stewart these days.
