Hillary needs a speech coach |
|
I was just in the ladies room where I work and the Sean Insanity show was being piped in (Blech!) and he was spewing Hillary trash about how her own party boos her when she makes speeches. He then proceeds to play snippets of her speeches with "I Am Woman" playing in the background. I was cringing because she was yelling in that annoying monotone and the longer it played the worse it sounded.
I don't know why people thought Howard Dean's famous "yelling" was so bad.
I'm not a Hillary hater...but wow, that sounded bad!

1. Yes, she sounds shrill and condescending a lot of the time |
|
Sadly, that matters. Despite her great intelligence, she sounds like a shrew sometimes, and people are turned off by it. Many will not hear her message. They will react on a visceral level to her delivery

9. That tone is probably BECAUSE of a speech coach. |
|
"OK, Senator Clinton, that's good, but let's see if we can't inject a tougher, more 'no-nonsense' cadence into the vowels."

2. They'll all be dissappointed (Insanity, et al) |
|
that they wasted so much time on Hillary when they learn she's NOT the dems 2008 presidential candidate. Let them drag her around all they want, they're doing us all a favor.

4. Sean uses technology to make folks sound bad - and our media did that to |
|

Dean by removing the very loud background noise
The media will play dirty with any Dem - Fox and Sean more than most.
Hillary's voice sounds fine - her inflections are not as dramatic as they could be - which may be the monotone you are referring to.
And as to the inflections (the alteration in pitch or tone of the voice), I also would like to see more pronounced ones - but she tends to just get louder when she tries for more inflection,

18. no matter what station I hear her on |
|
her delivery is like fingernails on a chalk board.
Some people have a presence which puts people at ease and makes them feel comfy and open. She doesn't have that gift.
There are people who are very marketable and people who serve best behind them.

7. Okay, let's not do this |
|
I am no Hillary fan, but I am not going to bash her on anything except policy differences. This is how the right manages to turn any Dem candidate into a cartoon character. As I've said a cazillion times, WE help them and we have to stop doing that.

14. I think some just don't have the talent for it. |
|
Most don't go out there without some assistance.
The key is to be more concerned with what you're actually saying, instead of being obsessed with the overall "image" you wish to project, and fearing you will make a misstep.
It's why some politicians seem "genuine" while others do not.

17. I think that was Al's problem in 2000 |

He probably just should have relaxed and not worried about the presentation and he would have come across much more naturally.

Hannity should just shut the fuck up until Bush learns how to speak in full coherent sentences, and speaks in front of an audience that IS NOT pre-screened.

16. Many people do not understand how microphones work |
|
Edited on Wed Jun-14-06 03:14 PM by SoCalDem
I often cringe when people YELL into a microphone.. Politicians are the worst..They equate volume with enthusiasm..
In my life I often have to use a microphone, and the thing that works best is to just stop what you are saying, and wait for people to realize that they need to shut up :)
My parents were screamers, and I learned early-on, that when people scream, others quit listening.. they may hear, but they don't listen..
When my boys were small, I never yelled at them..I would take a moment, sit them down and talk in a normal tone, no matter HOW mad I was.. It usually diffused their anger..and mine...and I paused often to MAKE them speak too..Everyone felt "heard" and usually it solved whatever problem there was..
as much as I admire Hillary for her poise during the "Monica thing"..I also wish that she had chosen a private life after BC's term.. The sense of entitlement to public office has always bothered me. ..It bothers me as much with HER and it did when junior was pushed onto the throne once occupied by GHWB..
It actually threatens our democracy to have "sons of", "daughters of", "wives of" replacing former congresspeople/presidents/governors.
For a country that has always prided itself on individuality and equality, we seem dangerously enamored with the idea of monarchy and entitlement..
