Went to a patriotic thing last night...
It was hard. I love my country, but this is NOT my country. Anyone else understand?

1. Yep.
Our country does not have rigged elections or fascism or unprovoked wars, etc.

3. Yup.
Hubby and I just got back from Alberta last weekend. It's where he's from. I'm a Texan (36 out of 40 years here).

At the Calgary airport, you go through U.S. Customs, and there are high ceilings circling all around, with nice patriotic "apple pie" American graphics.

With all the crap that's going on right now, I felt the definite need to throw up while we were standing there.

4. It would depend on the nature of the event. . .
Mindless glorification of the present situation (whatever that situation has been throughout my life) has never appealed to me and holds no attraction whatsoever today -- in fact, repels me in so many many ways.

But a celebration of the national ideals, a recognition of what's formed us and a call to continue to strive towards a future bright with promise for everyone . . . that I respect and would enjoy.

I feel it's important to separate, as much as possible, our present situation from our past and the values which have formed us. At some date in the not too distant future, we will reclaim this land and we must do so in the name of all that is great and glorious in its promise and ideals. Thomas Jefferson lives! And it is that reality which calls me to the fray every day.
