Is this ribbon magnet obnoxious?

There are so many ribbons around here I felt conspicuous for not having one, so I had my own version made...but the wife says it disrespects the troops.

That's the last thing I want to do, but frankly I don't get it. What it's meant to disrespect are the idiots who think putting a magnet on the back of their car shows they're doing their part.

3. Yes. Not that that's a bad thing.
And it's not disrespectful of the troops; it's very appropriately disrespectful of the assclowns who slap "Support The Troops" magnets on their SUVs and call it good.

5. I don't think it insults the troops at all
I think the bigger insult to the troops is that their biggest cheerleaders are refusing to provide any relief by joining them.

7. Is Your Wife A Republican? (Serious Question)
Edited on Tue Jun-20-06 07:58 PM by OPERATIONMINDCRIME
If she is, don't sweat it. If she isn't, then you should heed her warning.

We're all too emotionally invested in the left side of the argument to see anything in that ribbon other than a great statement. But we need to remain objective. If an every day person who isn't a freeper or neocon takes a first look at it and thinks it to be disrespectful, then it would be wise to heed that reaction as one you are most likely to get from other every day people. Since that isn't the message you are intending, it may be wiser to come up with something different.

But if your wife is right-leaning, then the ribbon may in fact be fine as it is.

13. No, blue to the core
and I'm beginning to think that some people may not get it and just think it mocks being patriotic.

I have some deeply-embedded snark issues, which is why I have to get objective opinions about this stuff.

17. I Would Respect Her Opinion And Come Up With Something Else Then.
Edited on Tue Jun-20-06 08:05 PM by OPERATIONMINDCRIME
I personally like it very much and think you did a great job. But like I said, I'm kinda partial LOL

But if you want to display it not for your own sake, but for the sake of sending the message to others that 'a ribbon does not support make', but it risks sending a potentially different message of disrespect for our troops, then you may want to reconsider.

15. Another problem--some with the sticker HAVE enlisted.
I'm not a big fan of the yellow ribbon stickers at all, but I don't see them as inherently awful, like the creepy W squares, or the "I Support George Bush AND the Troops" (with "the troops" in smaller type, of course).

But if you feel strongly, go for it, just don't be real surprised if a few decent people do take some offense.

14. It disrespects those who think putting up a ribbon
is all it takes to support the troops.

And it does sorta disrespect the practice of putting ribbons on one's car in the first place.

21. Kinda mean to the people who really mean it
when they put it on their SUV, and also give a bunch of money to the USO and send care packages too. Then you might just look like an asshole to them. I dont personally have a problem with it, btu my wife has one and she would probably throw an egg at your car or something.
