The Republicans just wanted it more (re:Scalito) |
|
Give the Republicans and their affiliated interest groups credit. They just seemed to want it more. I really think they fought harder than Democrats and their affiliated interest groups. They coached Scalito for every scenario, had Republican senators ask him softball questions and took to the airwaves much more aggressively than Democrats and their groups did. They also led us all on a dead end goose chase with the CAP stuff. Most Democrats are going to vote no, but they will not use the one weapon that they have that could actually stop this nomination, the filibuster. You only need 41 to fillibuster, that would even allow one or two Democrats to jump off of the reservation if they have to (i.e., Ben Nelson, who is up for re-election in dark red Nebraska).
The Democrats chickened out of fighting a president with a 39% approval rating because they were afraid he would whine like the little spoiled brat that he is. They were also afraid of the corporate media types saying mean things about them.

That's why Alito will get in. The Repubs outnumber the Dems 55-45.

gloom and doom reports from fortune tellers on DU. Apparently a good portion of the population here are psychics that know how every situation is going to turn out and must tell us all so at every opportunity.
No offense--it just gets very old. It would be nice if once in a while if more took the time to point out what good is being done. Or if they don't like something--find a way to contribute to it in a positive way and encourage others to use their energy in a similiar fashion...as opposed to so many talking about how 'disastrous' everything is and how much all the Dems suck.
Hi, Cocoa! Sorry--you know I'm not referring to you...:hi:

criticize the dems for "not fighting" but then caving in themselves even before the dems do. Talk about spineless!

There are those on this site that gave in when the nomination was announced, and have been trying to convince everyone else to join them in their way of thinking.
I have more respect for those that at least TRY to be hopeful, wage a fight and continue to do so until the resolution of a situation than I do those that hang on these boards and just 'poo poo' the Dems and never even bother.
The absolute worst I've seen here have been those that even insist that those that try to fight DON'T--because they say so... They expect all Dems to walk in lock step (like the rw)...
