Our local AAR station, Phx, has been promoting their new album, telling the story.

5. They're #2 on the Billboard 200, four weeks after the album's release.
Not too shabby. I guess when you sell that many records, that's proof that AMERICA HATES YOU! :-)

It's also STILL #1 on the Billboard Country Chart. :-)

4. hm. I hate country music but I like their last album
admittedly, I'd have never listened without the controversy, but I found the songs enjoyable, even if some of them seemed repetitive stylistically.

9. I bought their album because I'm an open minded Democrat
I like it now after listening to it.

I dont' post in every thread about something I'm not interested in just for the sake of being disagreeable - unlike you who has posted this 10 times already if memory serves me. What exactly is your point?

7. They're In Trouble Stateside
Having Big problems selling tickets. Even in New York. I just looked, and Jones Beach, which went onsale this morning, still has good Orchestra seats available.

Some of their ticket auctions have seats in the first Five Rows getting no more than about $100/ticket.

It's sad that this country has abandonned them, and their best selling shows are in Canada and Europe.

17. They're Number 12 on Pollstar's Top 50 this week
That doesn't sound so bad. Of course, it could be a lousy tour season in general. They happen, too.

11. They're surprisingly good
Edited on Fri Jun-23-06 01:16 PM by Sugarcoated
for mainstream stuff, which I usually don't go for. There's a huge difference between real country and the kommercial-pop kountry that most people think is country. Real country is the best, just the best. And that's coming from a rock & roll girl. Discovering real country added a whole new dimension to my music listening. The country music biz sucks all the originality out of it.

12. if you listen to "real" country and not this garbage they're trying
Edited on Fri Jun-23-06 02:25 PM by madmom
to pass off now you will see that it's sounds a lot like the original old rock 'n' roll. I stopped listening to country when they started with the "flavor of the day" stupid young blond females that couldn't carry a tune in a bucket, went back to classic rock.

edited to include, I do like the chicks.

13. I was referring to bluegrass, blues country
but yeah, country sounding rock, altcountry, Americana, folk-country, singer songwriter country, any music with a "twang", it's all good.

16. September 29 - DALLAS, TEXAS
You know, the city where Natalie was supposed to have her head blown off, according to one death threat she received.

Word to the assassin wannabe: Your scare tactic failed. The Chicks still rock. Sell your guns and have a beer.

18. Not bad for some local Dallas musicians......
Time was they were street musicians in the West End of downtown Dallas (that was pre-Natalie). They also used to play Dallas area festivals like Artfest. I remember them one year.

Nice to see a couple of Texas venues. The Chicks need to get back on track back here at home. They also might be able to get some Texans back to doin' their own thinkin' instead of letting the neocon noise machine do it for 'em.

20. WOW the Chicks didn't sell out all shows in 20 minuets......
like their last tour, and only the nose bleed seats are left at NYC's Garden , ok there is a semi boycott in the red states. Gee they're going down hill so quick they added like a dozen new shows abet the new shows are not at the 15,000 +++ seat arenas but 3,000 to 10,000 seat venues. You should check out how other artists are doing, many top names are not selling out, Not that I'd go see Madonna but her shows are half empty..

I'm NOT a country fan , but after listening to the Chicks' new Taking the Long Way release, I a Rock / folk / pop
fan going back to the 60's Like their new release and would not have put it in a strictly country genre.

Chicks promise 'old-style rock show'
http://www.miami.com/mld/miamiherald/entertainment/weekend/14713234.htm
The Dixie Chicks have been in the headlines for reasons unrelated to music -- for insulting President Bush a few years ago, for which they received death threats, and recently for refusing to apologize.

But not completely lost amid all the furor is the fact that this is a great band, as evidenced by its status as the biggest-selling female group in history.

The Chicks' Accidents & Accusations tour rolls into the BankAtlantic Center in Sunrise on Oct. 7. Band member Natalie Maines says that it will be ``more of an old-style rock show, not so much about theatrics and props but just about the music.''

In addition to music from the Chicks' new Taking the Long Way album, you'll hear all their previous hits from their Grammy Award winning albums Wide Open Spaces (1998), Fly (1999) and Home (2003).
