These guys can't hold on to anything anymore
This is crazy. We have laptops disappearing all over the place!?

Government hit by rash of data breaches By HOPE YEN, Associated Press Writer
Thu Jun 22, 8:01 PM ET

WASHINGTON - The government agency charged with fighting identity theft said Thursday it had lost two government laptops containing sensitive personal data, the latest in a series of breaches encompassing millions of people.

The Federal Trade Commission said it would provide free credit monitoring for 110 people targeted for investigation whose names, addresses, Social Security numbers — and in some instances, financial account numbers — were taken from an FTC attorney's locked car.

1. They should either forbid these morons from...
...having laptops or chain the laptops to their necks whenever they take them out of the building.

In reality, the best way to protect sensitive information is to make sure the data stays on the server and is never saved locally. That way, even if the laptops are stolen, all the thieves get away with is a $1,000 pc, not the identities of hundreds of thousands of people.

2. My husband and I both work for a union.
For a small local, not the national. Our president is NOT computer savvy in any way but he has let everyone know that NO personal information and no financials are to be kept on the laptops. None at all. The main programs, yes, but none of the date. It all gets backed up every time there's an entry and the files deleted using one of programs that won't let 'deleted' data be recovered.

How hard is it for these people to keep the data safe.

4. It's crazy
People just aren't thinking anymore. It's easier for a thief to get our personal information than we can. Your boss is a smart man.

6. That's the only name I've ever called them.
Although it's hard to face a little kid suiting up for the cold and refer to them as idiot mittens.

7. Just Part of the PLAN
It's all just part of the plan.

The plan to keep us all afraid.

Does anyone seriously think that all these "thefts" of laptop computers is really just "accidental"??\

WAKE UP!!

Rove and his gang of thugs are merely doing what Bush and the other thugs have said that they want.

And that is to CONTROL us through FEAR and INTIMIDATION!

So, they fake the "thefts" of a large number of laptops containing information about lots of people.

Fear. Intimidation. Control.

It's how the Bush Cabal Thug Regime operates.

9. You beat me to it...
all of a sudden laptops full of information has been coming up missing and it is not in the government only. This is part of the plan to investigate and use information to set up who they want and claim no responsiblity.

15. I hate to say it Bux, but too many Americans are apathetic and
downright lazy.

Wouldn't want to disrupt their pretty lives with something that actually matters more than matching drapes and furniture or their golf game.:grr:

17. You know...
they *do* make thumb print security and GPS tracking for laptops and computers- in fact, Microsoft makes a keyboard with built-in thumbprint ID (For Mac and Windows, no less!). Why doesn't the US government do more to keep people from viewing their data? They could encrypt sensitive data, add stronger passwords (more than "Password"), etc.

P.s: when they came out, USB thumb-print locks ran for about $19.99 USD
