NBC is most definitely drinking the Kool-Aid
They are basically telling us it's OK that Bush is monitoring our bank transactions because dangerous terrorists, like the Miami Seven, want to hurt us. I'm willing to bet that none of seven guys they arrested even had a bank account.

MIAMI -- The Bush administration, trying to uncover suspected terrorist cells like the one discovered in Miami this week, has begun monitoring banking transactions, said NBC 6 News.

Early Saturday, newspaper Web sites revealed details on the secret program. The banking program does not focus on Americans' bank accounts but takes a look at transactions made through the Swift group.

Based in Belgium, Swift is the society for worldwide interbank financial telecommunications.

The Bush administration hopes such monitoring will help officials identify transfers being made to al-Qaida. Officials strongly defend the program.

14. Well, I read somewhere that one had a bank account,
Edited on Mon Jun-26-06 08:59 AM by teknomanzer
it had a grand total of $20. A big indicator of terrorist activity I'm sure.

I'm not so sure monitoring bank accounts is fool proof. Real terrorists will just keep the cash under the mattress so to speak.

3. yeah, I see that the media picked up on Bush's little "9/11" trick
throw in that quick Miami 7 reference even though this type of monitoring would have done nothing to find these guys

6. Why do folks think the credit card monitor program and domestic bank
monitor program is not tracking all citizens?

Where do folks think the GOP got their data for Voter Vault, which was "used to precision in the San Diego County special election. The program allows ground-level party activists to track voters by personal hobbies, professional interests, geography — even by their favorite brands of toothpaste and soda and which gym they belong to...." http://www.latimes.com/news/opinion/commentary/la-op-hamburger25jun25,0,906381.story?coll=la-home-commentary

Does anyone think the military data lost at a VA workers home, the credit card data lost on a monthly basis, the telephone data on every call that is per the Bush folks in the "biggest data base in the world" (I liked the wording because it is true - they just do not note that the credit card data, etc., is also in that database), and the internet data, all of which is being data mined, is not feeding the GOP Voter Vault effort?

Albeit you can not get a source on the record as the source would face prison time or death, but why can't our connected to the intel folks NATIONAL REPORTERS get off the record verification and then tell the American people what has happened?

11. That's exactly what it is
The GOP will always find a new way to steal the vote. In 2000, they tried using the Butterfly Ballot in Palm Beach County. When that didn't work so perfectly, they called the Supreme Court in.

In 2004, they were much smoother. They used the computer voting machines that left no paper trail.

And in 2006, they will have millions of voter profiles on record.

I wonder what they're going to use to elect Jeb Bush in 2008?

7. I'm sure they've been monitoring where Soros' money is going.
This is going to bite them in the butt. When they do shit to regular people, nothing happens. When they do shit to wealthy people and businesses - stuff happens.

9. Whaaat?
Yeah, I'm certain the group in question didn't have a Swift type account.

Don't they have a minimum?

10. The flashy handsome people reading the news ARE the government.
They report news occassionally, but mainly they distribute the official bullshit lines. T.V. is their most powerful tool.

I think that name best describes their organization. LOL

My apologies to whomever I just "borrowed" that name from. I wish I had copied your name so I could credit you.

On edit: forgot to add LOL to first sentence.
