Gitmo Prisoners "Chow Down" on "Big Macs" During Interrogation /MSNBC |
|
Edited on Mon Jun-26-06 08:13 AM by KoKo01
Just saw this on Noron O'Donnell's "Hotshots" MSNBC segment this a.m. Cully Simson (Head of Gitmo) is angry over a film depecting the horrors of Gitmo.
"Noron" asks him what the prisoners are eating...and he said "They get three squares a day and have a menu to choose from every two weeks. The menu is blessed by an Imam and they are told which way Mecca is to pray."
"Noron" then says "I hear the prisoners are even chowing down on Big Macs." Simson says "That's right during interrogation they chow down on a big mac."
She said: "During interrogation?" He said "That's right."
(Can "Noron" get any worse? Prisoners "chowing down?" And, excuse me...but wouldn't a Big Mac be against their dietary laws if they are Muslim? It was the cruelest segment I've seen "Noron" do and whoever Simson is he would have been happy supervising Nazi torture. Another Bush incompetent who is filled with arrogance towards fellow human beings.)

3. The Nazis used to lie about the folks in Auschwitz, too |
|
And they still do. Nothing new here; the people who want to keep our own little made-in-America gulags running will just recycle the same nonsense the Nazis peddled during their time.

12. They might starve them through interrogation so they are forced to eat |
|
the Big Mac meaning that this not only is in violation of their religion but a big joke to the interrogators. These people are inhuman who are doing this and Simson seemed to find it amusing along with O'Donnell.
I never thought I'd see anything like this in America.

I don't eat fast food, so I don't know for sure, but what is on a Big Mac that makes it a violation of Islam? Is it made of pork or shellfish?

17. It's the way the cow is slaughtered and there might be "fillers" in the |
|
bun or the meat. The prisoner as part of the interrogation might be forced to eat it not knowing...which would be part of the humiliation. It may be that the "Big Mac" fits their food requirements..(so Bushie can tout that all their food fits their religious requirements) but the prisoners don't know that. And, that's part of the cruelty. :-(

Did you notice he used the McCain amendment as the reason the torture they use is OK? Wasn't that nice.

McDonalds offers many Halal meals and their fries are cooked in vegetable oil. We eat there.

13. He didn't say the "Big Macs" were Halal meals, though. |
|

and don't the cows have to be slaughtered in a certain way? Since he was on there defending treatment of prisoners at Gitmo it was up to him to counter "Noron" and say the "Big Macs" used for interrogation are Halal diet approved. Instead the man smirked and seemed to find it funny that Noron said "chow down on Big Macs."
Halal Meals:
So what should a Moslem or Muslim meal be? First of all, the meals should be referred to as Halal meals, not Muslim meals. The dietary standard is Halal, not Muslim. Non-Muslims as well as Muslims consume halal meals. And the meals should not be confined to one ethnic type. A Halal meal should be made with Halal certified ingredients. It should contain Halal meat, poultry or fish; fresh vegetables; rice or other grain; should not be over-spiced but just seasoned to taste; should include a Halal dessert; Halal bread; and a Halal salad with dressing on the side, etc. It should be sealed in a way to prevent contamination during handling and serving. In other words, it can look like the regular meal service on the flight, except it should be made with Halal certified ingredients and it should contain a statement to that effect. And it should be available on all flights where a meal is served.

You sure don't have to explain halal to me! Been eating it all my life.
From what I hear from other Muslim friends, they are serving food to standard at Gitmo. McDonalds has been working to meet the regulations.

19. I added the diet description for DU'ers who don't know. So...you believe |
|
that the prisoners at Gitmo are being treated humanely and are satisfied that McDonalds is as you say "working" on fulfilling the dietary requirements?

Every thing's coming up roses at GITMO?!?
I suggest that every Republican Representative and Senator take their ENTIRE family there (the heart of GITMO) for vacation this August. Oh yeah, invite our USA Chimperor too!
They're *all* so damn worthy of "you need a break today" treatment. :P

20. This was on Hardball on Friday. It was a disgusting episode. |
|
Nora was going to great lengths - not just in this segment - to rewrite history and suggest that there was no torture at Gitmo.
She made the point that the prisoners who chow down on Big Macs during interrogations specifically asked for McDonalds. IF they did, it must have been because they were very hungry.

It's a total non-sequiter anyway. You can give someone a Big Mac and then beat the shit out of them, you know. Stupid.
