Tree falls on White House grounds at *'s doorstep
Where is * today? Could this be a message? Is the tree trying to keep him IN or OUT of the White House?

Tree falls on White House grounds

WASHINGTON - A large elm tree fell on the White House grounds overnight, partially blocking a roadway after a weekend of heavy rains soaked the Mid-Atlantic region.

Secret Service spokesman Jonathan Cherry said early Monday that the tree did not damage the White House and no injuries were reported.

The elm tree landed near the president's front door and partially blocked a road leading to the White House on the Pennsylvania Avenue side of the building. It wasn't immediately clear how long the elm tree had stood outside the White House.

Heavy storms caused flooding and downed trees and power lines in the Washington, D.C. area, Monday, June 26, 2006, including this large oak tree that fell at President Bush's doorstep in front of the White House. Heavy winds and rains knocked the large tree down overnight. (AP Photo/Ron Edmonds)

10. Bush orders invasion of "Treeland"
Citing the freedom-hating leadership of Trees that sends young trees out to try to squash world leaders, a defiant and resolute President of the Whole United States of By-damn America George W. Bush ordered the immediate location and invasion of "Treeland" as the Global War on Terror expanded to a new front. Secretary of Defense and Answering His Own Questions Donald Rumsfeld and Pentagon officials began a feverish search for Treeland, as Secretary of State and Official Stinkeye Giver Condoleezza Rice took the occasion to once again warn every other nation on planet to stop snickering up their collective sleeves at the hapless chief executive. "We've got enough nuclear missiles for all of you," Dr. Rice intoned while playing piano for a white sheath-clad Connie Chung.

22. Sure does show how "in touch with Nature" we are these days.
When I was a kid, it was part of 2nd Grade curricula to identify all the deciduous trees in our region. I'm talking public school, not just cub scouts. As time goes on and more and more people isolate themselves in their air-condtioned cars, air-condtioned homes, and air-condtioned offices, never going camping or vacationing in a cabin with a hand pump for water and an outhouse for crapping, fewer people have any first-hand contact with the flora and fauna with which we share this planet. Appalling.

41. So, which is it? Inquiring minds want to know ...
If they can't get this right, what can they???

I knew the names of all the fauna where I used to live and know know most of the desert ones where I now live. It's not that difficult. Like you said, elementary learning.

14. It was a terra-ist!
I wouldn't be surprised if we hear a news story like,

"Homeland Security announced today that they twarted a plot by terrorists that was in full steam at the White House. The plan? To knock trees down and set the historic house ablaze. But some quick apprehensions by the Homeland Security department helped foil the plot. President Bush congratulated Homeland Security Chief Michael Chertoff by telephone shortly after being briefed on the plot and the White House released a statement today that this, along with the apprehensions in the Brooklyn Bridge and Sears Tower plots proves that the Administration's approach to terror is 'working' and that 'Americans should stay the course this November'."

43. The Lumberjack song.
I'm a lumberjack, and I'm okay.
I sleep all night. I work all day.

Mounties :
He's a lumberjack, and he's okay.
He sleeps all night and he works all day.

I cut down trees. I eat my lunch.
I go to the lavatory.
On Wednesdays I go shoppin'
And have buttered scones for tea.

Mounties:
He cuts down trees. He eats his lunch.
He goes to the lavatory.
On Wednesdays he goes shopping
And has buttered scones for tea.

Chorus :
I'm (He's) a lumberjack, and I'm (he's) okay.
I (He) sleep(s) all night and I (he) work(s) all day.

I cut down trees. I skip and jump.
I like to press wild flowers.
I put on women's clothing
And hang around in bars.

Mounties :
He cuts down trees. He skips and jumps.
He likes to press wild flowers.
He puts on women's clothing
And hangs around in bars?!

Chorus :
I'm (He's) a lumberjack, and I'm (he's) okay.
I (He) sleep(s) all night and I (he) work(s) all day.

I cut down trees. I wear high heels,
Suspendies, and a bra.
I wish I'd been a girlie,
Just like my dear Mama (or Papa in later versions)

Mounties :
He cuts down trees. He wears high heels,
Suspendies, and a bra?!

Chorus :
I'm (He's) a lumberjack, and I'm (he's) okay.
I (He) sleep(s) all night and I (he) work(s) all day.

Yes, I'm (He's) a lumberjack, and I'm (he's) ok-a-y.
I (He) sleep(s) all night and I (he) work(s) all day.

To Isengard though Isengard be ringed and barred with doors of stone
Though Isengard be strong and hard as cold as stone and bare as-bone...
We go we go we go to war to hew the stone and break the door
For bole and bough are burning now the furnace roars we go to war
To land of gloom with tramp of doom with roll of drum we come we come
We come we come with rool of drum with horn and drum we come
