Cafferty's Qs: prosecuting newspapers, flag-burning amendment

AIRS: 4-6 p.m. and 7-8 p.m. ET Monday-Friday

Monday's shows
http://www.cnn.com/CNN/Programs/situation.room/

The Senate showdown over flag burning; is it a legitimate issue, or just flag flapping by the Republicans? Tune in at 4 p.m. ET.

Then at 7 p.m. ET: We'll look at the new push at prosecuting newspapers as an effort to plug government leaks.
Cafferty File

Jack Cafferty sounds off on the stories crossing his radar. Write in to answer Jack's hourly questions, and watch to see if he reads your response.

4 p.m.: Should newspapers be prosecuted for reporting on the government's surveillance of financial records?

5 p.m.: If you had $44 billion, who would you give it to?

7 p.m.: What's more important than Congress passing an amendment to ban flag burning?

• Send in your answers to Jack's questions
• Read some of your responses

1. I think newspapers should be prosecuted
... for FAILING to report promptly on government intrusions on civil liberties. Fuck Chimpy! The real offense is in being complicit ... as the NYT was in burying the NSA surveillance story they had at election time.

2. Keep in mind the House has a 94-day legislative schedule this year
Between recesses, holidays, months off, and all the other little breaks the House has decided to grant itself this year (along with a tidy little pay raise), the House will be in session for 94 legislative days. 94 days to conduct the nation's business. 94 days. And they spent two of those days on a meaningless non-binding resolution that said the United States should really (we mean it!) try to win the war on terror. Another couple of days on a meaningless resolution against gay marriage. And it looks like they'll devote a couple more days to a meaningless debate on whether to propose a constitutional amendment to ban flag burning.

So in answer to the 7 p.m. question as to what's more important than an amendment to ban flag burning -- I'd hate to find out what these nutcases think is more important. Perhaps warding off gamma rays from Pluto?

4. My answer:
Jack here's what I think should happen:
The government should follow the law and the NYT shouldn't have to report on these programs. Now I know that makes sense and they probably won't do it because it does, but I just thought I'd put that suggestion out there.

When one of these spy programs is uncovered, they always tell us we shouldn't worry if we have nothing to hide. Why in the world are they so upset about this? What are THEY hiding?
