NOTHING so surreal then getting rid of t.v. then watching cable news! |

I have been without cable for a couple of years. It costs too much, it eats up time, and it subsidizes the propaganda machine.
But, occassionally when I am over a friend or family member's house, I catch a cable news show. As weird and as crazy as cable t.v. seems to the sane among us who see it everyday, it becomes absolute acid trip insanity after you have 'cleansed' your system of it. I think this is due to a few reasons.
1. Cable news is degenerating as rapidly as a potato saldad left out in the middle of July in Florida.
2. After you haven't watched it for awhile and get your news soley through thoughtful on-line content, the sheer stupidity and propaganda of it looks like a circus side-show.
3. They are using more and more and more 'news models' which makes one feel as though they are getting their news from back stage at the Miss America pageant.
I watched a few minutes a week or so ago, and all I could think was...'MAN...what a bunch of freaks'!!!!!!!!!!!!!

1. I'm with you.... no cable for more than a year.... |
|
But, I do see it when I travel for work in the hotel--maybe every six weeks or so... Pretty disturbing, I have to agree.

5. We've never had it. Seeing it is indeed surreal. And the MSM |
|
"news" at both national and local levels is simply warmed over trash. We're dropping the habit.

6. I went cable-free in '96, but occasionally I'll see a cable quip... |

Like the Bill O'Reilly/Phil Donahue exchange several months ago: http://www.crooksandliars.com/2005/09/21.htmlThen I'm flabbergasted that this crap passes for journalism!

7. I have a satellite dish, but I don't watch..... |

CNN, and I've blocked Fox to avoid even surfing by it. I watch MSNBC for an hour most nights to see Keith Olbermann. I'm fortunate that I get Link TV, they carry Democracy Now 2x a day and run great documentaries.

8. Good point. The best news is from reputable on line/print sources, imo. |

I am a C-SPAN junkie, though. For Congressional maneuverings/votes/debates I like the original source.
