"Let us turn our thoughts today to Martin Luther King".....
..." and recognize that there are ties between us
ALL men and women
Living on the earth
Ties of hope and love
Sister and brotherhood...."

thanks to Sweet Baby James Taylor for this beautiful tribute-

Shed A Little Light

Let us turn our thoughts today
To Martin Luther King
And recognize that there are ties between us
All men and women
Living on the earth
Ties of hope and love
Sister and brotherhood
That we are bound together
In our desire to see the world become
A place in which our children
Can grow free and strong
We are bound together
By the task that stands before us
And the road that lies ahead
We are bound and we are bound

There is a feeling like the clenching of a fist
There is a hunger in the center of the chest
There is a passage through the darkness and the mist
And though the body sleeps the heart will never rest

(chorus)
Shed a little light, oh lord
So that we can see
Just a little light, oh lord
Wanna stand it on up
Stand it on up, oh lord
Wanna walk it on down
Shed a little light, oh lord

Can’t get no light from the dollar bill
Don’t give me no light from a tv screen
When I open my eyes
I wanna drink my fill
From the well on the hill

(do you know what I mean? )
- chorus -

There is a feeling like the clenching of a fist
There is a hunger in the center of the chest
There is a passage through the darkness and the mist
And though the body sleeps the heart will never rest

Oh, let us turn our thoughts today
To Martin Luther King
And recognize that there are ties between us
All men and women
Living on the earth
Ties of hope and love
Sister and brotherhood

James Taylor

1. Stunning Composition.

I learned of it through the "Live" CD.

Thanks.

3. OH!! please make a point of
finding it- It is as moving as any of JT's songs ever was-

the place where he sings "there is a feeling like the clenching of a fist"... and the clear beautiful voice singing out, then being joined by a choir... it brings chills to me even writing this-
it is one of those visceral songs- felt as much as heard-
written with conviction, and sung with love-

one of my most favorite songs ever- and that's saying alot-

It is on his "Live" album- Wish I could post the song for you-
for us all-

peace,
blu

5. here is a link
to a 'taste' of the song-
just a 'bite' on the right side of the screen you can play a clip-

I just tried it, and it works but it's SO brief-

Hope you can find the full version, and he soothes me too TG.

(hope it is ok to link this- I was looking for a site that wasn't commercial, and the NPR from "King Tribute" wouldn't work for me-)

6. Playing it loud; singing along, misty eyed
Thanks SO much for the reminder. Just got it at iTunes for .99. I'm playing it loud and singing along, misty eyed. PERFECT for this day: clear, on point, stirring and inspiring.

Let's try permanent, non-violent revolution for a few decades; see if we can learn to love it.

7. no, thank you- I
get chills every time i hear the song- the harmony, the truth-

We need some LIGHT!!!! I'm SO with you on non-violent revolution. We've been doing the violence thing since time began, and look where it has taken us. To a world where we spend zillions on better ways to kill, and let people die for lack of medical care, food and basic necessities of life, all the while proclaiming our morality.

I'm willing to die, giving non-violence a chance. And i'm completely serious- knowing that I'd have to 'live with myself' if i chose the alternitive. It would be futile.
