Anyone else getting notices from the Post Office? |
|
I live in a small town in Northern WI. Got a notice from the Post Office yesterday that I need to fill out this application form, and bring in TWO forms of identification for a post office box that I have had for the last 20 years!!! One must be a photo i.d. and the other some sort of bill etc. It says social security cards are NOT a form of i.d.
The letter claims they are updating the information for an electronic system, but I feel a there is more afoot.
Just wondering if this is something going on all over?

2. I find it funny that you have to have a bill for so many things. |
|
It's like you don't exist is you don't pay bills.

4. our business had to do it |
|
Metro Atlanta - We have a separate PO box for the HR dept and got one of those notices in the PO box mail last year. The company took care of all of them at one time.

5. went through this a year ago and my w-2 from '04 was sent back |
|
to the employer 2 times the third time they hand delivered it on the 31st of january '05. I made a formal complaint on this and was assured what they done in sending it back was unlawful. I was told by the post office that they needed the new info because of a new program they had switched to. and the only way for them to ensure I get my ass down there with the required ID's was to send all my mail back. I also order an item and it was returned twice also on the third try I asked to have it sent to my rural route address. I am sure it has something to do with the illegal cartel we have in the whitehouse now too. To say the least I'm still pissed about it. I guess it is better to be pissed off than to be pissed on.

7. it has got to be part of bush's data collecting for his police state. |
|
for the boy to do all the things that he is doing i have got to believe that his daddy never ever, ever, ever, believed in democracy either, not in the bush-family personal lives, and not in their crappy, assholed, power-grabbing, oxygen-snuffing, democracy-dismantling political lives.

I, or we, got these last summer....we had recently been married and I had a hell of a time getting my stuff together....I think it's more of big brother's control. When we were in Texas for a year, before we were married, we needed a PO BOX in the town where we were. On the USPS web site they tout PO boxes and how wonderfully convenient they are..."get several"... you know, if you travel, etc. alot. I thought it would be no problemo....Hah! Fortunately, both postmasters were pretty good in helping me....I think they think this is a lot of poop and just more work for them. That's just one big run on sentence isn't it?

9. I think it's to counter mail fraud. They weren't as stringent about |
|
establishing identity when they let people set up PO boxes earlier, and now because of so many scams (and terra-ism, one supposes), they're cracking down.

Are they scanning the new bar code label in your mailbox yet? I believe this started within the last 6 months at my sister's place in Lynnwood WA.

15. It is federal requirement - all post offices suppose to get IDs. |
|
Not just picking on you.
Folks where I live have all known each other since birth, but still had to pony up with photo IDs.
What I find hysterical is that you can use a bill sent to your mailing address as a form of ID... hello? Stuff sent to your PO Box is good ID that you are who you say you are so you can keep you PO Box?
Yep, the rule is nationwide, and NO, it does absolutely NOTHING to make the Homeland more Secure! Like most everything done here since 9-11, it is all for show. Our whole security program here now is just a dog and pony show to cover the fact that we are dealing with snake oil salesmen.

16. Had to renew my driver's license in MO |
|
Late last month, Required that I bring a Birth Certificate to do so now (in our Post 9/11 world). So I took the one my Mom had given me and was told "oh,sorry sir that isn't a certified copy, you need to get that before I can renew your liscense". So I go to get my Certified Copy and for I.D. I get to use my soon to expire Driver's Liscense (and of course $15.00). Now with Certified Birth Certificate (which has less information on it than the photostat of the original which I had) in hand I can get my Driver's Liscense renewed. Is this a great country? I guess we really showed them Al Qaeda Guys, them illegal immigrants and the identity theives with this exercise in document shuffleboard.....

17. I had problem with "name on birth certificate not same as now...' |
|
DUH! I got married. And where is your marriage certificate to prove THAT? uh, I left it after the divorce... as it happens, I do have my divorce decree with me (was on my way to put important papers in safe deposit box that day too. Oh, and it is a 6 hour round trip for me to do that AND get a driver's license - what fun to deal with a red tape wielding nazi wanna be recently empowered with "since 9-11"!) Took three co-workers and two supervisors to convince the brown-shirt that the court created and judge signed divorce decree was pretty good proof of a marriage!
I swear, most of the shit security requirements since 9-11 are just perks to entice more of the brown-shirt mentality folks to come work for the junta!
Note to young ladies in America: Don't take his name. It creates a lot of headaches.

that if you have a faint, orange colored barcode on the back of any of your mail, it means they are tracking what comes to your address. Haven't seen any on mine yet.
