MSNBC Replaces 'Rita Cosby'
Rita Cosby is losing her year-old MSNBC show and will get her own specials unit for the cable channel effective July 10.

The shuffle, which MSNBC announced Thursday, is the first big move of Dan Abrams' three-week tenure as MSNBC's general manager.

"Rita Cosby: Live and Direct," which has been telecast at 10 p.m. (ET) weeknights and repeated at 1 a.m. (ET) since late spring, will be replaced by taped documentary programming, under the familiar label of "MSNBC Investigates." Ms. Cosby will serve as the primary anchor of "Investigates," which has been led by various rotating anchors over years. "Investigates" also will run at 11 p.m.

Joe Scarborough's "Scarborough Country" will remain at 9 p.m. weeknights.

"The Situation With Tucker Carlson" will move into the 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. timeslots that have been the home of "The Abrams Report," the legal-issues and crime show that Mr. Abrams hosted prior to his promotion.

1. My life is ruined. What, oh, what will I do now?
That said :sarcasm:

We will probably be offered "Pervs Caught on Tape" in that time slot.

2. Oh just great. Now who in the hell is going to track down all of the
missing blonds in that phony, throaty rage of despair?

Who is going to be the advocate for young, white, blond women who are missing?

28. Well, Rita and Star could team up.....LOL
BTW, Star apologizes to Joy Behar (who reportedly detests her now) because they were once good friends until Star didn't tell Joy about her tummy slices. This item is in the Daily News Lloyd Grove gossip column today at the link below provided to that site.

4. Will never watch it again
I can sit through Dan Abrams waiting for Olbermann. But Tucker?? No friggin' way. I guess I'll be watching home decorating shows unless Congress decides to debate something important for a change.

5. Call me crazy, but KO would do better apart from that wasteland
of stale programming. Imagine if he was someplace that gave him a budget to work with.

13. ABC/CBS would make him tone down his humor
As it is KO is the only reason I ever have to tune in to MSNBC. Waiting through the last few minutes of whatever drivel precedes him is irritating, but he's worth it.

KO has a sometimes-tongue-in-cheek way with serious news that might not translate well to other channels, but he pulls it off quite well most of the time. Lately he seems to have picked up Jon Stewart's flip-book method of playing the Bush regime's words back at them, which is a delightful way of demonstrating how truly Orwellian they are.

Any of the MSM news programs could do the same thing without sacrificing their gravitas, but they choose not to. Plus they don't seem to back up their own people either -- witness the unnecessary ignominy of Dan Rather.

(Two years ago the Television Critics Assoc. gave The Daily Show an award for best news and information program. When the head of CBS bitched about it I wrote him a letter demanding to know why, with all their resources, his news team did not call the regime on their about-faces the same way Jon Stewart does. Never got an answer.)

Whatever becomes of Keith Olbermann, I wish him well in his news career. He's been great to watch.

6. So I wandered over to her Wikipedia article and it made me quite mirthy.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rita_Cosby

Her deep voice, which frequently descends into lower octaves, is a source of mirth in many corners.

9. More like strained/strangled voice quality.
A voice therapist would describe her voice as having a strained / strangled quality, which would likely indicate abused vocal folds.

That's no source of 'mirth'. That's a source of irritation for listeners.

14. I should NOT have clicked on that wikipedia link...
First, I find out Rita Cosby is almost a decade younger than I am (if she's telling the truth about her age). I cannot believed that. Heaven knows, every time I saw her I ran to the mirror to see if my grey hairs needed touching up.

Second, who grows up in Greenwich, CT and goes to South Carolina for school? I grew up in North Carolina, and could have attended UNC, an excellent university with an excellent basketball team, but chose to go up north to a college with excellent academics (but a mediocre basketball team). No one that I knew
was running the other way.

Rita, I hardly knew you (mostly because I'd turn to reruns of The Simpsons whenever I saw you on MSNBC), but I don't think I'll miss you.

26. I think she's married to Dr. Huxtable.
And their daughter had twins! But then the daughter made a porno with Mickey Rourke and got shipped off to a prison school in the South where nobody was allowed to drink or have sex or curse.

Yes, I remember it all clearly now.

I don't like to see cable news programming removed in favor of reruns of Lock Up, no matter what the ideology or fluff proliferation the host exhibits.

17. I don't watch MSNBC
don't like Rita, Scarborough or tucker -

not crazy about matthews either although on occassion I'll watch it briefly then he starts to annoy me with all his interruptions of his guests. I often wonder why he even has guests since he wants to hog all the airtime..

I'll watch Keith periodically

mostly I'll pause on MSNBC is I see a news crawler that catches my eye while channel surfing

"and now you're going to see even more of me at 10 and 11, on MSNBC and also on NBC."

Not if we don't watch MSNBC at 10 and 11, Rita.

22. Hmmm...
Rita is really bad - but is it a solution to replace her with taped programming?

Is this the best Abrams can do???

I am not optimistic for the future.

Since I actually like Tucker's show (sorry) I'm glad it will be on at 6 now instead of opposite Jon Stewart at 11. Just my pair o' pennies.
