Will Digg.com muscle into DU and Free Republic's territory?
Check out www.digg.com, they have just released the 3.0 version of their software. The site uses a lot of nifty-AJAX web technology to give the user a very good experience.

For example you can rate stories up by clicking on button and with no page refresh. Contrast that with a click, a pop up and a refresh on DU.

You can also moderate comments up and down and it filters out troll rated comments. This feature has been requested for years on DU to no end result.

Anyway they just added a politics section to the site. It's non-idealogical there now so it probably won't unseat FR and DU.

But it would sure be nice if DU had some of the cool AJAX features. In a lot of ways DU is stuck in 2000 technologically.

2. Compared to a lot of sites on the web, DU is freakin state-of-the-art
Seriously, there are many sites I can't wade through because they are so medieval. I think SKinner & company do a pretty good job of updating, especially being a donor-supported site.

4. It's ad supported too.
And the reason that it's not so great is because they used free open-source software.

3. There's a diff between the software and the content.
It doesn't look like digg will encroach on DU's content anytime this millenium.

5. I think digg runs rather slowly and isn't any improvement on DU.
