US troops accused of raping, killing Iraqis
By Middle East correspondent Mark Willacy and wires

The US military is investigating more alleged killings of Iraqi civilians by American soldiers. A military official says five US soldiers are being investigated for allegedly raping a young woman, then killing her and three family members in an area south of Baghdad in March.

A military spokesman says there is no indication what led the soldiers to the home but it appears the troops were not fighting insurgents at the time. The investigation has been ordered by Major General James Thurman, who is a senior commander in Iraq.

It has been prompted by claims from two soldiers that they heard the accused talking about, but did not witness, the attack.

"We're not going to leave any stone unturned," US military spokesman Major Todd Breasseale said...

5. But they won't. All they will get is a few years in prison
IF they are found guilty, which is doubtful, considering the legal system for Iraqi citizen atrocities.

3. Another day in Iraqnam
Such charges, if true, would warrant the death penalty in my opinion.

Or maybe turning them over to the Iraqis for a little "Islamic justice", heh, heh.

4. It's because of things like this that Roosevelt said "War is Hell".
Unfortunately many minds get unhinged during a war, especially a war like the one in Iraq. Can you imagine what these people will do when they get back home? I have lived during four wars so I have a little experience.

8. That was Sherman.
And if they caught you raping civilians and murdering their families during the Civil War it was a quick trip to the gallows.

6. so why did we go after Saddam again?
The military and the people running it have been corrupted by the bush administration. They corrupt everything they get near.
